Job Overview

Al Rabeeh Academy is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Science to join our dynamic, high-performing team from August 2026.

As Head of Science in an international British curriculum school, you will play a pivotal leadership role in driving high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, including GCSE and A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will lead, manage and develop a team of Science teachers, setting clear expectations, providing coaching and professional development, and ensuring consistently high standards of teaching, learning and student outcomes across the department. You will oversee curriculum planning, assessment, data analysis and departmental improvement planning, fostering a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team culture.

You will promote a strong STEM ethos across the school, encouraging practical, inquiry-based learning and cross-curricular collaboration, while ensuring a safe, well-resourced and engaging laboratory environment that supports innovation and academic excellence.

You will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the department, supporting and coaching staff, and embedding engaging, concept-driven teaching that develops students’ analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through strong leadership and collaboration, you will foster a positive, inclusive learning environment where both students and teachers can thrive and achieve their full potential.

What Were Looking For

We are seeking a Head of Science who can:

  • Lead and deliver high-quality, engaging Science teaching in line with the British Curriculum, with the ability to teach and oversee provision across Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE and A Level.
  • Model and promote strong scientific thinking, enquiry skills and practical application, ensuring teaching across the department is innovative, challenging and effective.
  • Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor, track and improve student progress and attainment across all key stages and science disciplines.
  • Drive curriculum planning, sequencing and development across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, ensuring coherence, progression and alignment with examination requirements.
  • Lead, manage, coach and support members of the Science department, promoting high standards of teaching, learning, laboratory practice and professional conduct.
  • Oversee health and safety procedures within laboratories and practical learning environments, ensuring compliance with school policies and best practice.
  • Support the academic and pastoral wellbeing of students, embedding the school’s values, routines and high expectations across the department.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers, communicating clearly about curriculum intent, student progress and next steps.
  • Contribute actively to school improvement initiatives, professional development and wider whole-school life.

Qualifications And Experience

Applicants must:

  • Be a fluent English speaker
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject with PGCE / QTS (or equivalent teaching qualification).
  • Experience teaching the English National Curriculum, preferably in an international setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and commitment to student wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • strong leadership with the ability to lead and coach a team.
