JOB DESCRIPTION

The Global Category Manager is responsible for developing and implementing long-term sourcing strategies across multiple categories and sub-categories at global, regional, and geozone levels. Working closely with key stakeholders, the role aims to maximize value, optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), enhance quality, and reduce cycle time. The Global Category Manager leads supplier relationship management, negotiates contracts and agreements, oversees compliance with company and legal standards, and ensures effective operational execution. The position reports to the Sr. Global Category Management and maintains a dual reporting line to the Geozone/Region Supply Chain Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively use and oversee appropriate procurement contract templates in alignment with Global Supply Chain Legal requirements.
  • Ensure all activities comply with corporate governance, ethics, HSE, Security, and company standards.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, environmental protection, and continuous improvement.
  • Understand and support the company’s Quality policies, ensuring high service quality and driving improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define and implement global technical, commercial, and contractual standards.
  • Conduct spend analysis and develop a detailed segmentation of categories and sub-categories.
  • Develop and implement long-term global sourcing strategies with clear milestones, risk assessments, and supplier performance plans.
  • Prepare, participate in, and lead bid events, supplier qualifications, negotiations, and contract awards.
  • Develop and manage global supplier relationship strategies, including scorecards, KPIs, benchmarking, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Build and maintain a strong, consistent pipeline of strategic suppliers and long-term partnerships.
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment and engagement in supplier strategies and award decisions.
  • Guide global, regional, and geozone procurement teams to adopt and operationalize category management strategies.
  • Communicate recommendations and category award decisions clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Drive supplier base consolidation and rationalization efforts.
  • Evaluate and report global and regional performance indicators related to cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the Category Management and Sourcing functions.
  • Maintain strong communication and alignment with stakeholders, Product Lines, and the Supply Chain network.
  • Apply account-management practices to enhance stakeholder satisfaction, business value, and profitability.
  • Identify fact-based opportunities to reduce TCO and generate measurable business savings.
  • Ensure contracts and agreements are fully implemented across all regions and functions.
  • Provide training, development, and mentoring support to team members.
  • Support performance management, talent development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership teams to execute category strategies and improve functional performance.
  • Identify process gaps and recommend innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, service quality, and cost management.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, ethical behavior, and adherence to company standards.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of procurement, strategic sourcing, and P2P processes (including e-catalogs, e-ordering, e-invoicing).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform spend analysis and build cost models.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management capabilities for global/regional agreements.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to understand industry and market trends and their impact on the business.
  • Expertise in identifying sourcing opportunities and developing RFX documentation.
  • Strong leadership, team collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Project management skills with structured problem-solving and decision-making.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and exceptional time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly to changing environments.
  • Ability to work across cultural, regional, and organizational boundaries.
  • Strong relationship management and service-orientation skills.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical Engineer
  • 7–10+ years of experience in sourcing, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, or similar fields.
  • Experience with e-sourcing tools and methodologies.
  • Proven success in negotiating domestic and international agreements.
  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration with stakeholders and delivering measurable savings in large, complex organizations.
  • English proficiency (additional languages beneficial).
  • Intermediate Excel skills and proficiency in MS Office.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (MBA or related).
  • 10+ years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, or Supplier Relationship Management.
  • Experience working across multiple geographies, functions, and business segments.
  • Oil & Gas industry supply market expertise.
  • Professional certifications: CPP, CIPS, CSPC, CPM.
  • Advanced Excel user.
  • Familiarity with JD Edwards and Oracle systems.
