Job Description

The Institute of Public Health (IPH) at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Full Professor in Public Health and Epidemiology. We seek to appoint an outstanding scholar with an internationally recognized research profile and a sustained record of academic excellence in public health and epidemiology. The successful candidate will contribute to the strategic advancement of the Institute through high-impact research, competitive research funding, postgraduate supervision, high-quality teaching, academic leadership, and institutional service. The position is intended for a senior academic with demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of public health and epidemiology, including but not limited to epidemiology, disease prevention, health promotion, infectious disease epidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, maternal and child health, injury prevention and safety promotion, surveillance, implementation research, environmental health, occupational health, or other public health priority areas relevant to the UAE and the region. This reflects the scope and disciplinary priorities present across the reference postings. The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic and scientific leadership in the Institute of Public Health and to:

• lead and sustain a high-quality, internationally visible research program or project in public health and epidemiology;
• maintain a distinguished publications record in reputable peer-reviewed journals;
• secure and lead externally funded research projects as Principal Investigator;
• supervise and mentor MPH and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and junior faculty;
• contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in public health and epidemiology;
• support curriculum development and enhancement of academic programs;
• foster interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration within UAEU and with external partners;
• establish and strengthen links with health authorities, government agencies, healthcare institutions, and international academic and research organizations;
• contribute to academic administration and service within the Institute, College, and University. The successful candidate will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the continued development of the Institute’s research profile, graduate education, and external engagement, consistent with UAEU’s mission and national priorities. Minimum Qualification

Applicants must hold a PhD, DrPH, ScD, or an equivalent doctoral degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Population Health, Preventive Medicine, Biostatistics, or a closely related field from an accredited and internationally recognized institution. Applicants must demonstrate:

• a distinguished and sustained record of scholarly achievement in public health and epidemiology;
• an internationally recognized research profile;
• a substantial record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals;
• a strong history of successful competitive research funding, preferably as Principal Investigator;
• extensive experience in postgraduate supervision, including successful supervision of master’s and doctoral students;
• substantial teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
• evidence of academic leadership, institutional service, and contribution to the advancement of the discipline.
  
  

Preferred Qualification

Preference will be given to applicants with:

• a proven record of leading major research programs/projects or multi-institutional collaborations;
• demonstrated impact on public health policy, practice, or systems development;
• experience building productive partnerships with ministries, public health authorities, healthcare organizations, and international agencies;
• a strong record of mentoring junior academics and building research capacity;
• expertise aligned with public health priorities in the UAE and the Gulf region;
• a medical degree in addition to the doctoral qualification.
