The Field Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation, configuration support, and overall equipment readiness of marine robotic platforms and related systems. The role ensures that all platforms are mechanically and electrically prepared for field validation, testing, and deployment activities, working closely with Field Engineers to support disciplined and reliable execution.
Purpose of the Role
To maintain high equipment reliability and readiness in support of structured field validation, operational missions, and deployment activities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on marine robotic platforms and associated equipment.
Develop, follow, and update maintenance schedules to ensure consistent preventive upkeep.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in a timely manner.
Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and consumables required for operations.
Assist with deployment and recovery of marine vehicles and field equipment.
Set up, test, and verify sensors, communication systems, and onboard components prior to missions.
Monitor equipment condition during operations and support adjustments as needed.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, deployment records, and system checklists.
Escalate technical issues appropriately and contribute to workflow and process improvements.
Ensure strict adherence to HSE procedures during all maintenance and field activities.
Performance is measured through equipment reliability, quality of maintenance, accuracy of documentation, and effectiveness in supporting field validation missions.
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Background
Technical diploma or certification in Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field.
Vocational training in marine systems, electromechanical systems, or offshore equipment is an advantage.
Experience Level
2–8 years of hands‑on experience in marine, offshore, industrial, or electromechanical environments.
Experience supporting unmanned marine platforms, vessels, or offshore equipment is preferred.
Experience working in offshore or physically demanding field environments is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong mechanical assembly, installation, and repair skills.
Practical experience with mechanical and basic electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
Familiarity with marine deck operations, lifting practices, and safe equipment handling.
Basic understanding of marine power systems, batteries, connectors, and cabling.
Experience with sensor mounting, alignment, and cable routing.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Basic understanding of communication systems and field wiring practices.
Ability to follow structured checklists, maintenance schedules, and documentation procedures.
Soft Skills
Strong safety awareness and strict adherence to HSE procedures.
High attention to detail in maintenance and installation tasks.
Reliable, disciplined, and consistent with documentation and checklists.
Able to work effectively under supervision while taking ownership of assigned tasks.
Physically capable of working in offshore and field conditions.
Team‑oriented mindset with willingness to support Engineers and Operators.
Adaptable and responsive in dynamic operational environments.
Bonus Skills
Offshore survival or marine safety certifications.
Experience with USVs, AUVs, ROVs, or marine survey equipment.
Basic troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
Experience managing spare parts inventory systems.
Interest in progressing toward Field Engineer responsibilities over time.
