Job Description

The Estimator and Cost Controller role requires a meticulous and detail-oriented professional responsible for creating and managing accurate cost estimates and financial forecasts for projects. These professionals play a pivotal role in assessing the financial feasibility of projects by analyzing specifications, drawings, and project requirements and using this data to produce cost estimates that inform decision-making. They bridge the gap between project management and finance, ensuring that projects adhere to budget constraints and financial objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of cost control procedures, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. This is a critical position within many industries, including construction, manufacturing, and engineering, where financial oversight and cost efficiency are paramount for successful project completion.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing blueprints, proposals, and project requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and help establish risk management practices within projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to determine budgetary limits and constraints.
  • Manage and update cost databases to refine and enhance estimation accuracy.
  • Track project expenses and compare them against the original budget estimates.
  • Generate financial reports that summarize project cost data for stakeholders.
  • Perform cost analyses to ensure projects remain within financial targets.
  • Coordinate with procurement to align material costs with budgeting strategies.
  • Implement cost control measures and ensure they are communicated effectively.
  • Advise on potential financial impacts and make recommendations for budget adjustments.
  • Review and evaluate contractor and vendor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of budget decisions and project transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in cost estimating and control, preferably in relevant industries.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with cost estimation software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Certification such as AACE's Certified Cost Professional (CCP) is advantageous.
