A CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) Technician plays a critical role in healthcare facilities by ensuring that all surgical instruments and medical devices are sterilized and properly maintained. This position is essential for maintaining a sterile environment and preventing infections in hospitals. The technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of medical instrumentation and supplies, making sure they are safe and ready for use in surgeries and other medical procedures. Responsibilities

• Inspect and decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment following strict guidelines.
• Assemble and prepare trays of instruments and supplies for sterilization.
• Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and washers.
• Ensure proper documentation and tracking of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies and reorder as necessary.
• Perform regular quality control checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
• Adhere strictly to infection control and safety standards at all times.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to fulfill specific sterilization needs and requests.
• Train and mentor junior staff on sterilization procedures and equipment usage.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote efficiency and safety.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor promptly for resolution.
• Stay updated on new sterilization protocols and medical innovations in the field.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; certification in sterile processing preferred.
• Prior experience working in a CSSD or similar healthcare environment is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control protocols is essential.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment such as autoclaves efficiently.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle delicate medical instruments with care.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
