Job Description

The CSSD Technician (Central Sterile Supply Department Technician) plays a crucial role in healthcare settings by ensuring that surgical instruments and medical devices are properly sterilized and ready for use. This position is vital to maintaining a safe and infection-free environment for patients and healthcare professionals. The CSSD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, assembling, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments and devices. Working in a healthcare setting, the Technician must adhere to strict safety and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination and infection. The role requires attention to detail, a thorough understanding of sterilization techniques, and a commitment to patient safety.


Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and medical devices to ensure patient safety.
  • Inspect surgical instruments for damage and proper functionality before sterilization.
  • Assemble surgical instrument trays following detailed lists and procedural guidelines.
  • Operate sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and gas sterilizers, safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, including dates, times, and equipment used.
  • Monitor inventory levels of sterile supplies and report shortages to maintain stock.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines and sterilization standards at all times.
  • Perform routine maintenance of sterilization equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Package medical instruments and devices securely to maintain sterility until use.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare staff to understand and meet surgical instrument needs.
  • Participate in continuous education and training on the latest sterilization techniques and technologies.
  • Assist in quality assurance checks to ensure all sterilization processes meet regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required for all applicants.
  • Certification as a Central Sterile Processing Technician is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical sterile processing environment is beneficial.
  • Understanding of sterilization techniques and the ability to operate related equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with healthcare staff effectively.
  • Willingness to adhere to strict safety and hygiene protocols at all times.
