Job Description

A Credit Controller plays a crucial role in the finance team by ensuring that the company’s credit and collection policies are effectively implemented. This role involves managing the ledger accounts of clients and customers, ensuring timely payments, and minimizing company loss through bad debts. A successful Credit Controller combines knowledge of accounting principles with excellent customer service skills. They are responsible for assessing credit risk, authorizing outstanding credit lines, and resolving payment issues with customers while maintaining healthy client relationships. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to credit risk management to optimize cash flow and safeguard company revenues.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor customer accounts to prevent credit issues and mitigate financial risks.
  • Evaluate new customers’ creditworthiness through thorough financial analysis.
  • Conduct regular reviews of existing accounts' credit terms and limits.
  • Maintain detailed records of financial transactions and account statuses.
  • Implement company credit control procedures to ensure no loss to revenues.
  • Negotiate payment plans with clients to resolve late payments smoothly.
  • Provide monthly reports on the status of accounts and collection initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry financial regulations.
  • Collaborate with sales and finance departments to resolve outstanding queries.
  • Utilize software systems to manage and forecast future credit risks effectively.
  • Handle internal inquiries and direct them to the relevant departments efficiently.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies found in customer payment records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline required.
  • Proven work experience as a Credit Controller or similar finance role.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a strong attention to detail required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and negotiate assertively with clients.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and experience with financial reporting tools.
  • Solid understanding of credit risk, ledger management, and collection procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts and competing priorities.
