The role of a Credit Control Manager is crucial within an organization, ensuring effective management of a company's credit policy and risk. This position involves oversight of the credit accounts for the business, managing collections processes, and maintaining strong relationships with clients to facilitate timely payments. A Credit Control Manager must balance being firm enough to manage clients who are overdue in payments, while maintaining the relationships that retain client goodwill. This requires strong analytical and negotiation skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication capabilities. The ability to develop policy, train and manage a team, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations is essential. This role is vital for maintaining the financial stability of the company and ensuring a healthy cash flow, contributing directly to the financial growth and operational success of the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor debtor balances ensuring compliance with the company's credit policy and limits.
  • Develop and implement effective credit control systems and procedures company-wide.
  • Lead and coach the credit control team towards achieving annual objectives and goals.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of customer credit limits and risk profiles.
  • Negotiate payment terms and settlements with clients in an effective manner.
  • Handle complex customer complaints and negotiate resolutions to resolve billing disputes.
  • Prepare and present detailed credit management reports to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and company policies during all credit control activities.
  • Collaborate with sales and finance departments to optimize customer relationships and revenue flow.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within current credit control practices and suggest solutions.
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate records of all credit control activities and customer interactions.
  • Liaise with external agencies and legal representatives to recover outstanding debts when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in credit control management positions.
  • Strong knowledge of credit policies, procedures, and applicable regulations is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective interactions with clients and management teams.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Proven leadership capabilities to manage and motivate a diverse team effectively.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a strong focus on maintaining accuracy and accountability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate clear and concise reporting.
