Established in partnership with UK’s Moorfields Eye Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi brings 200 years of specialist eye care experience to the United Arab Emirates. Founded in London in 1804, Moorfields is considered the oldest and one of the largest centers for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world.

The Consultant Ophthalmologist - Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery will provide expert specialist care in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of disorders inclusing cosmetic and non cosmetic affecting the eyelids, lacrimal system, orbit, and related periocular structures. The consultant will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred ophthalmic care within a multidisciplinary environment, supporting both routine and complex tertiary-level cases. The successful candidate will contribute to service development, clinical governance, teaching, and the continued growth of oculoplastic services, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital conditions.
• Perform medical and surgical management of eyelid malpositions, eyelid lesions, ptosis, entropion, ectropion, blepharoplasty, and related periocular conditions.
• Diagnose and manage lacrimal disorders, including epiphora, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, canalicular disorders, and dacryocystitis.
• Perform lacrimal procedures including probing, intubation, dacryocystorhinostomy, and other related surgeries as appropriate.
• Assess and manage orbital disease including inflammatory, infective, thyroid eye disease-related, and selected orbital mass cases within scope of expertise.
• Manage periocular trauma and urgent oculoplastic presentations as required.
• Work collaboratively with other ophthalmology subspecialties, radiology, ENT, maxillofacial, oncology, endocrinology, and other relevant teams within M42 to provide integrated care.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation.
• Participate in outpatient clinics, day-case procedures, operating theatre sessions
• Support service planning, pathway redesign, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance access, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
• Supervise, teach, and support junior doctors, optometrists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.
• Participate in clinical audit, governance, morbidity review, and continuous professional development activities.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and patient safety protocols.
• Contribute to the reputation and growth of the department through high clinical standards, teamwork, and excellent patient care.
  
  

• Medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Completion of accredited specialist training in Ophthalmology.
• Fellowship, CCT, CCST, American Board, FRCOphth, or equivalent recognised specialist qualification in Ophthalmology.
• Fellowship training or equivalent advanced subspecialty training in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery.
• Eligibility for DOH / HAAD consultant licensure in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
• Significant post-certification experience as a specialist or consultant in oculoplastic ophthalmology.
• Demonstrated expertise in eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital surgery.
• Experience working in a tertiary, specialist eye hospital, or high-volume ophthalmic service is highly desirable.
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage both routine and complex cases safely and effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate and professional patient care.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to clinical governance, audit, teaching, and service development.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development, research, teaching, or publication activity is desirable.
