Job Summary

Join our culinary team at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi as a Commis, where you will play a critical role in maintaining smooth operations within the Food & Beverage Department. You will support the Senior Chef by rotating through various sections of the kitchen—from vegetable and meat stations to pastry and butchery—ensuring high-quality food preparation under precise guidance. Your responsibilities include meticulously following hygiene standards, accurately measuring and portioning ingredients, managing stock rotation, and efficiently handling deliveries to minimize waste and optimize food costs. You’ll also actively participate in daily/weekly procedures such as temperature checks, cleaning, and safety protocols, all while maintaining a fast pace during busy service periods. This role empowers you to develop foundational culinary skills, build stamina, and foster adaptability while upholding the cleanliness, safety, and performance standards of our kitchen.

Responsibilities

Maintain High-Quality Food Standards

  • Execute food preparation tasks according to Senior Chef directives while ensuring all dishes meet quality and presentation standards.

Measure, Portion, and Cook

  • Accurately measure ingredients and utilize large-volume cooking equipment, such as grills and fryers, to support kitchen workflow.

Uphold Cleanliness and Hygiene

  • Maintain clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils while verifying food quality and quantity to meet company protocols.

Manage Stock and Inventory

  • Stock and restock workstations, monitor stock levels, and place orders to reduce spoilage while adhering to food cost objectives.

Execute Daily and Weekly Procedures

  • Conduct temperature checks, date food products, implement storage procedures, and resolve kitchen hazards while reporting issues to senior staff.

Ensure Compliance with Hygiene Regulations

  • Adhere to HACCP standards, company procedures, and cleaning schedules while maintaining records of hygiene and safety compliance.

Oversee Delivery Storage and Acceptance

  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries in line with company protocols to ensure timely use and minimal waste.

Support Menu and Stock Control Execution

  • Demonstrate understanding of stock management (FIFO) practices and how they align with menu planning and operational efficiency.

Participate in Kitchen Opening/Closing Rotations

  • Familiarize and carry out rotated opening and closing procedures to support kitchen workflow during peak and quiet periods.

Promote Cleanliness Across the Kitchen

  • Ensure meticulous cleanliness standards in assigned sections and assist with hygiene-focused duties as directed by the Senior Chef.

Maintain Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Stay fully informed and compliant with health and safety regulations, proper use of chemicals, and emergency protocols.

Respond to Emergency Situations

  • Demonstrate capability to act promptly and effectively during kitchen emergencies or unexpected disruptions.

Adhere to Food Safety Standards

  • Implement best practices for food sanitation, safety, and adherence to company policies at all times.

Develop through Training

  • Participate in required workshops and training sessions aimed at personal and professional growth within the culinary team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic Hospitality or Catering training
  • Experience in Pastry
  • A foundation degree in Culinary Arts Management
  • Previous on-the-job experience or apprenticeship in food preparation and kitchen organization
  • Proficient basic cooking skills including knife sharpness, precision, and multi-tasking under pressure
  • Strong food preparation abilities encompassing sauces, salads, starters, hot dishes, pastries, and roasting
  • Familiarity with kitchen tools and equipment operations
  • Fluent verbal communication skills in English for fast-paced kitchen environments
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams
  • Experience adapting to stress and maintaining calm while managing multiple culinary tasks
  • High ability to work quickly without sacrificing precision

Desirable

  • Diploma in Hospitality & Catering or Professional Cookery
  • Additional certification in international cuisine types
  • Basic Food Hygiene or HACCP certification
  • Two or more years' experience in restaurant or hotel kitchens
  • Diverse versatility across kitchen stations, including vegetable prep, meat, fish, pastry, and butchery
  • Strong attention to detail with agility to quickly learn and apply new techniques
  • Capability to maintain high physical stamina and mental resilience during extended shifts and busy periods
  • Passion for upholding rigorous kitchen cleanliness and safety protocols
  • Creativity and innovation in repurposing or transforming food items while maintaining company standards
