Cath Lab Technician (225-718)

A Cath Lab Technician plays a critical role in the healthcare team, primarily assisting in cardiovascular procedures performed in the catheterization laboratory. These professionals work closely with cardiologists and other healthcare staff to ensure safe and efficient diagnostic imaging and treatment of heart conditions. Cath Lab Technicians are responsible for preparing patients, operating imaging equipment, and monitoring patients' vitals during procedures. Their knowledge and skills in handling sophisticated imaging and diagnostic equipment are crucial in supporting the success of interventions such as angioplasty, stent insertion, and other minimally invasive cardiac procedures. Responsibilities

• Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the catheterization lab.
• Prepare and maintain all needed supplies and equipment before, during, and after procedures.
• Set up and operate diagnostic imaging equipment used in catheterization procedures.
• Ensure strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols throughout all procedures.
• Monitor patients' heart rates and vital signs during catheterization procedures, responding to any emergencies.
• Document procedure details accurately, ensuring clear and concise medical records are maintained.
• Educate patients regarding the catheterization procedure and provide reassurance throughout the process.
• Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure the seamless execution of cath lab workflows.
• Calibrate and conduct routine checks on equipment to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
• Administer necessary medications under the supervision of a physician during procedures.
• Assist in the transportation and positioning of patients before and after procedures for optimal care.
• Stay updated on the latest techniques, equipment, and technology in cardiovascular care.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited educational program for Cardiovascular Technicians or similar field.
• Certification as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) preferred, but not mandatory.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a catheterization laboratory or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate effective patient interactions.
• Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under high-pressure situations.
• Demonstrated proficiency in operating and troubleshooting catheterization lab equipment.
