A Cath Lab Technician, also known as a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Technician, plays a critical role in the field of cardiovascular care. This position involves assisting doctors during invasive cardiovascular procedures in the catheterization lab. The main goal of the Cath Lab Technician is to ensure that all equipment is functioning properly, patients are adequately prepared for their procedures, and post-procedure recovery is monitored. Working in a high-pressure environment, these professionals must have a thorough understanding of medical imaging technology, patient care procedures, and cardiology as they work alongside cardiologists and other healthcare staff to diagnose and treat heart conditions. A Cath Lab Technician must be able to respond quickly in emergencies, ensuring that the patient receives the best care possible. Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain all necessary equipment for cardiovascular interventional procedures.
• Assist physicians with catheter insertion and removal during procedures.
• Monitor patient's vital signs and condition during cardiovascular procedures.
• Perform diagnostic imaging during catheterization under the direction of a physician.
• Ensure sterile field remains free of contamination throughout the procedure.
• Record all data and patient care activities accurately and promptly.
• Manage patient comfort and anxiety before, during, and after procedures.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement care plans.
• Maintain cath lab inventory, ordering supplies and equipment as needed.
• Assist in emergency situations by implementing life-saving interventions.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and post-procedure care.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or higher in cardiovascular technology or a related field.
• Certification as a Cardiovascular Technician (CVT) or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory setting.
• Proficient in operating advanced cardiovascular diagnostic equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac physiology and cardiovascular medications.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and team members.
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly in high-stress emergency situations.
