Carbon Project Originator

Offset8 is an emissions investment and management group headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Offset8 seeks to finance nature-based solutions in Africa and Southeast Asia.

As the Middle East’s first dedicated carbon market investment group, we are building a leading global institution in voluntary and compliance carbon markets. We seek to unlock financing for natural capital by acting as a global decarbonization partner for corporates and as a local steward for nature and communities.

We are expanding our team and are seeking a Carbon Project Originator to join our Abu Dhabi office.

As Carbon Project Originator, you will play a pivotal role in developing and expanding our portfolio of carbon credit projects across Africa and Southeast Asia. The role involves both origination and hands-on project development — including feasibility assessments, proposal writing, implementation planning, coordination of stakeholders and the preparation of Project Design Documents (PDDs) — to ensure that high-integrity nature-based carbon credit projects are realized from concept through registration.

Responsibilities:

• Project Sourcing: Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective projects by continuously scouting for high-quality opportunities aligned with Offset8’s investment criteria.
• Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence on potential projects – including technical feasibility assessments, baseline and additionality evaluations, and social/environmental impact analysis – to evaluate project viability and quality.
• Feasibility Studies: Lead technical development studies (prospect, preliminary/feasibility, conceptual or pre-project).
• Manage External Stakeholders: Coordinate activities and contributions of the various external developers and service providers (VVBs) during the execution of the study.
• Documentation: Support the preparation and review of Project Design Documents (PDDs) and other necessary documentation for project validation and registration under applicable carbon programs.
• Site Visits: Organize and perform on-site visits to prospective project locations.
• Representation: Represent Offset8 at key industry events, conferences, and client meetings globally.
  
  

Experience:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in carbon project development, carbon origination, or related roles (e.g. working with carbon offset projects, commodity trading, sustainable forest management, agro-forestry, or agriculture).
• Preferred degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Agronomy, Conservation, or Sustainable Development. Degrees in Business Management, International Policy are also accepted.
• Familiarity with carbon credit standards and methodologies, especially Verra and Gold Standard frameworks.
• Hands-on experience drafting or reviewing Project Design Documents (PDDs) and applying carbon accounting methodologies. Proven experience guiding projects through validation and verification under these or similar standards is highly valued.
• Demonstrated ability to originate and structure projects.
• Highly motivated self-starter with strong commercial instincts.
• Proficiency in additional languages spoken in our target regions (e.g. French, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese) is desirable and can help in on-ground communications.
