Job Role

Business analysts or functional consultants with experience in Banner Student Information System (SIS) play a critical role in higher education institutions, helping to manage and optimize student-related processes such as admissions, registration, academic records, financial aid, and other student services

Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering & Analysis:

• Collaborate with stakeholders (faculty, administration, IT, and students) to gather requirements for Banner SIS enhancements or new implementations.
• Document business processes and identify areas for system improvements.
  
  

• Configure and customize Banner SIS to meet the specific needs of the institution, including student registration, course catalog setup, grading systems, and financial aid processes.
• Create workflows and manage user roles and permissions.
  
  

• Ensure data accuracy and integrity within the system.
• Design and develop reports related to student enrollment, academic performance, and financial aid using Banner reporting tools.
  
  

• Provide training to end-users (faculty, staff, and administrators) on how to use Banner SIS features effectively.
• Troubleshoot system issues and provide ongoing technical support.
  
  

• Lead or contribute to the implementation, migration, or upgrade of Banner SIS.
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  
  

• Ensure the institution complies with local and international regulations concerning student data management (e.g., FERPA in the U.S.).
• Stay updated with the latest Banner SIS features, Ellucian product updates, and industry best practices.
  
  

• Banner SIS Expertise: Deep functional knowledge of the Banner platform, especially the student module.
• Business Analysis: Strong skills in requirements gathering, gap analysis, process mapping, and stakeholder management.
• Technical Proficiency: Ability to work with system configuration, reporting tools (such as Argos), and integration technologies.
• Higher Education Knowledge: Familiarity with the academic environment and student lifecycle processes.
• Project Management: Experience leading or supporting large-scale system implementations, upgrades, or migrations.
  
  

• Experience: 3-7 years working with Banner SIS in a functional or business analyst role, typically within a university or higher education institution.
• Banner SIS training/certification from Ellucian or related providers.
• Business Analysis certifications (e.g., CBAP – Certified Business Analysis Professional).
