Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Resident Engineer to join our dynamic team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In this role, you will provide essential technical support to the Resident Engineer and project team, ensuring that all construction works meet statutory requirements, contractual obligations, and quality standards. You will be instrumental in maintaining site compliance, coordinating between contractors and design teams, and documenting all construction activities with precision and professionalism.
- Assist the Resident Engineer in performing statutory duties and technical competent person requirements as mandated by local regulatory authorities
- Conduct regular on-site inspections to verify that construction works comply with approved plans, method statements, and safety protocols
- Review and analyze contractor-proposed construction sequences, temporary works, and late-cast openings to ensure structural integrity and feasibility
- Monitor and support the work of the contractor's technical competent persons, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to project standards
- Serve as a liaison between the contractor, site team, and design office, facilitating clear communication and timely resolution of construction-related issues
- Identify and document non-conformities, escalating issues to the Resident Engineer and relevant stakeholders with transparent and detailed reporting
- Implement and monitor quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) systems, site safety protocols, and environmental management practices
- Prepare and contribute to comprehensive site reports, inspection records, defect reports, and QA/QC documentation on a regular basis
- Maintain organized and accessible filing systems for all correspondence, site records, construction drawings, and regulatory approvals
- Attend site progress meetings, QA/QC meetings, and other project-related meetings, actively contributing to collaborative problem-solving
- Enforce compliance with ethics policies, including third-party payment procedures, sub-consultancy engagement processes, and organizational guidelines
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer or project management team, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to project success
Qualifications
**Required Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering; or equivalent higher diploma/certificate in civil or structural engineering
- Minimum 2 years of relevant post-degree experience in civil or structural engineering on construction projects; or minimum 5 years of relevant experience post higher diploma
- Demonstrated experience with superstructure works, civil drainage systems, and site formation activities
- Strong knowledge of construction compliance, statutory requirements, and regulatory standards
- Proficiency in site inspection, quality assurance, and quality control methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency in site documentation, report writing, and record-keeping systems
- Strong organizational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to analyze construction drawings, method statements, and temporary works designs
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience with geotechnical engineering or geotechnical-heavy building projects
- Technical Competent Person (TCP) certification or equivalent statutory qualification
- Familiarity with construction management software and digital documentation tools
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or commercial building projects in the Middle East
- Knowledge of UAE-specific building codes and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and collaborative team environments
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make decisive recommendations under pressure
