Job Description

An Assistant Pharmacist plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of a pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The primary goal of this position is to assist in delivering quality pharmaceutical care and ensuring optimal customer service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and dispensing medications, assisting customers with their inquiries, managing pharmacy inventory, and maintaining accurate records of prescriptions and medication stock. The Assistant Pharmacist must be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of pharmaceutical principles and practices, as well as a commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient safety and confidentiality.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide excellent customer service and address customer questions and concerns promptly.
  • Manage and organize the pharmacy inventory to ensure medications are well-stocked.
  • Label and package medications following safe practices and pharmaceutical standards.
  • Enter prescription information into the pharmacy computer systems accurately.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment in the pharmacy.
  • Support the pharmacist in conducting medication reviews and providing clinical advice.
  • Verify customer information and maintain up-to-date patient records for reference.
  • Coordinate with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care and service delivery.
  • Handle and dispose of expired or recalled drugs in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist in training new pharmacy staff and interns under the guidance of the pharmacist.
  • Participate in regular inventory audits and help manage medication stock levels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy technician certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting or related healthcare field beneficial.
  • Solid understanding of pharmaceutical terminology and medication names.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and healthcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in using pharmacy-related software and database management systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adherence to healthcare regulations.
