Job Purpose
The AI/ML Process Engineer supports the design and delivery of AI/ML-based process solutions and contributes to AI-driven operational improvement across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and other process-industry domains. Working under the guidance of senior consultants, the role combines a solid process-operations foundation with growing AI/ML capability to help translate operational problem statements into practical, well-documented solutions. The role contributes to solution development, hands-on implementation, and pilot delivery, and supports the Digital Enterprise Business Unit / Solution Division in building capabilities and supporting growth across the YMA region.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Technical Analysis & Solution Support
- Support technical analysis leveraging AI/ML and Digital Twin technology, including data gathering and gap analysis, to help identify opportunities for resolving customers' process problems.
- Contribute to solution designs and help develop detailed design specifications for AI solutions under the direction of senior consultants.
- Help capture functional requirements through client interviews, documentation analysis, and workflow / process mapping.
- Provide input to effort estimates for implementing AI solutions, drawing on technical guidance from senior team members.
- Business Case & Application Support
- Support the development of business cases for focused AI applications and assist with their implementation within the assigned process industry / application.
- Assist senior consultants in advising customers on suitable AI/ML solutions, and support solution design and demonstration activities.
- Support the preparation of Feasibility Study / Business Case reports that help customers with FID / budgeting approvals.
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Engage with customers alongside senior consultants to understand expectations and help ensure they are met through AI/ML solutions.
- Contribute to the technical approach for AI implementation, helping integrate simulation / Digital Twin and, where applicable, APC/RTO technologies.
- Help develop solutions that resolve customer process problems and support business growth in the assigned technical area(s).
- Assist existing customers in problem resolution, identify future opportunities, and provide ongoing service support to clients under contract.
- Project Delivery & Quality Assurance
- Deliver assigned technical tasks and deliverables across the lifecycle of solution-development projects, under the guidance of senior consultants.
- Help ensure the timeliness and quality of assigned deliverables while supporting the broader delivery team.
- Apply AI best-practice approaches, standards, and methods appropriately throughout delivery.
- Participate actively as a member of technical project teams, building and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Knowledge Sharing, Training & Enablement
- Support Smart Manufacturing / Digital Transformation (SM/DX) training efforts by providing input, documenting requirements, and supporting the design and delivery of AI-related training programs.
- Sales Collaboration & Growth
- Work with sales personnel to help position solutions and support opportunity development.
Qualification And Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s in chemical engineering (or a related engineering discipline) preferred, with a minimum of 7-10 years of industrial process experience in process operations, engineering, or related software/automation work (APC/RTO exposure an advantage).
- Some hands-on experience with AI/ML applications in an industrial setting (as part of the experience above); a willingness to deepen AI/ML skills on the job is essential, and exposure to AI for process control is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML methods and the model lifecycle, with awareness of best-practice deployment approaches.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on solution development.
- Work location: Yokogawa Global AI CoE Centre, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
- Willing and able to travel throughout the YMA region and globally as required.
Competencies & Skills
- Strong exposure to Machine Learning technologies, including automated data collection, historian applications (OSI PI a plus), data visualization, manufacturing quality and efficiency, SCADA, automated decision and control, workflow, database applications, and scheduling.
- Working knowledge and implementation experience with advanced process applications (e.g. MPA / APC / RTO) is an advantage.
- Awareness of, or working knowledge of, Python, R, and common Machine Learning frameworks is an added value.
- Strong knowledge of IIoT integration concepts and architectures.
- Up-to-date awareness of the latest AI and Digital Twin market trends.
- Knowledge of the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or specialty chemicals domains is a plus.
- Strong communicator and collaborative team player, comfortable working with colleagues and customer stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving orientation with a focus on practical solution development.
