POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for a wide range of aerospace, defence, and autonomous applications, including fixed- and rotary-wing UAVs and other advanced platforms.
Purpose
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting manufacturing process development, NPI execution, and industrialization activities for Powertech’s propulsion programs, including turbofan, microjet, and piston engines.
This role focuses on technical execution and expertise, contributing to machining and fabrication process development for rotating and structural engine components in a greenfield manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Development & Support
Support the development, validation, and improvement of machining and fabrication processes for rotating and structural engine components.
Apply hands-on expertise in machining and/or fabrication processes such as turning, milling, multi-axis machining, grinding, broaching, airfoil machining, and/or welding and other fabrication processes.
Support creation and maintenance of manufacturing routings, work instructions, and process documentation.
Assist with process validation activities including FAI, capability studies, and industrial qualification.
NPI & Production Support
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype build through production readiness.
Support production ramp-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
Assist in resolving manufacturing issues related to quality, cost, and delivery.
Design-to-Manufacture Support
Participate in concurrent engineering activities with design teams.
Provide manufacturing feedback during design reviews to improve manufacturability and robustness.
Support tolerance analysis, process selection, and material trade studies.
Supplier & Shop-Floor Support
Support technical interactions with external suppliers and partners.
Assist with supplier process reviews, part qualification, and issue resolution.
Provide shop-floor support during process development, trials, and production builds.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
3+ years of experience in aerospace or propulsion manufacturing.
Hands-on experience in machining and/or fabrication of rotating and structural engine components.
Experience supporting NPI, prototype builds, or production environments.
Practical, detail-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, greenfield manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM systems and hands-on experience in CNC programming for manufacturing process definition, toolpath development, and manufacturability assessment.
Exposure to machining simulation and optimization software, such as Vericut, Third Wave, CutPro, or equivalent, for collision checking, cycle time optimization, and process validation, is desirable.
Practical knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, tool holders and cutting strategies for aerospace alloys (e.g., titanium, nickel-based superalloys, aluminum, steels).
Understanding of fixture concepts, work-holding methods, and shop-floor best practices.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to support shop-floor issue resolution.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, greenfield manufacturing environment with evolving processes.
