Job Description

  • Conduct stage-wise visual and dimensional inspections before, during, and after welding in accordance with CSWIP 3.1 standards.
  • Monitor welding processes (SMAW, GMAW/FCAW, GTAW, SAW) and enforce compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and PQR.
  • Validate welder qualifications and maintain updated Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
  • Enforce specialized handling, cutting, and welding procedures for high-strength, armored, or shielding metal plates to protect structural integrity and ballistics/shielding performance.
  • Perform precision dimensional inspection of CNC machined parts (in-house and supplier-provided) against engineering drawings using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM reports.
  • Verify geometric tolerances (GD&T) including concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, flatness, and surface finish roughness (Ra values).
  • Inspect incoming raw materials, fastners, and outsourced components; cross-check physical shipments against Material Test Reports (MTRs), mill certificates, and purchase orders.
  • Issue Supplier Discrepancy Reports (SDR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for defective incoming lots or out-of-spec machined parts.
  • Inspect surface preparation (grit/shot blasting) to ensure required blast profile/roughness and cleanliness levels per ISO 8501-1 (e.g., Sa 2.5).
  • Monitor environmental conditions prior to paint application (ambient temperature, steel surface temperature, relative humidity, and dew point).
  • Measure Wet Film Thickness (WFT) during application and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) after curing using calibrated magnetic/electromagnetic gauges.
  • Perform coating integrity testing, including adhesion testing (cross-hatch/pull-off per ISO 4624 / ASTM D4541) and holiday/pinhole testing where applicable.
  • Perform and coordinate NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, and UT/RT review) to verify weld and material soundess.
  • Ensure all shop operations comply with ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 3834) and relevant API specifications(e.g., API 650, API 1104, API Spec Q1/Q2).
  • Prepare complete Quality Control Documentation packages, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), final Manufacturing Data Reports (MDRs), release notes, and coating reports.
  • Coordinate witness inspections with Third-Party Inspection (TPI) agencies and client representatives.
