Who moves mountains even across oceans? You do.- DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for an Operations Coordinator in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Ocean Freight Operational Accounting Specialist is responsible for managing the Ocean Freight Product Operational Accounting performance to ensure that timely billing and drive GP maximization. This includes developing and optimizing operational standards in line with corporate guidance and the Ocean Freight Product strategy, as well as coordinating training for new hires and existing staff. The role also involves aligning customer and supplier rates with their contracts and providing visibility of local costs for effective negotiations with vendors.

In this Operations Coordinator position


  • Support initiatives to maximize file level gross profit in collaboration with country and regional teams e.g. (Demurrage, Detention, Storage, Side Charges, Go Green etc.)
  • Support Financial File Closing Activities - assist in monitoring GP control and accrual completeness, and report discrepancies to relevant teams for resolution.
  • Monitor key operational accounting metrics (e.g., sick files, unbilled overdue, billing timeliness, revenue leakage, loss-making files, accrual timeliness) and support service delivery in continuously improving on the above
  • identify and track recurring / high value disputes, coordinating resolution with OCC and the Trade organization, and escalating to top-level owners when necessary to ensure timely resolution.
  • Monitor and analyze customer disputes, validate financial implications, and collaborate with service delivery and Finance to ensure accurate resolution and prevent recurring issues.
  • Support vendor cost control process and coordinate with Finance and Service Delivery to ensure discrepancies are addressed. Provide insights and validations that support effective cost control and help prevent GP leakage.
  • Follow internal procedures and quality/environmental standards, and maintain accurate records as instructed.
  • Identify inefficiencies in operational accounting and vendor management processes, propose improvements, and support implementation.
  • Assist in onboarding and training of new staff, and act as a go-to specialist for internal teams on operational accounting related topics.

  • Experienced in transportation applications, e.g., CW1 a plus
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Proven hands-on experience in operational and accounting systems
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reconciliation processes
  • Ability to proactively work independently and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently identify tasks and projects.
  • Take the initiative to start and follow through without needing external prompting
  • Education Level - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Logistics or a related field
  • Experience Level - < 2 years in Freight Forwarding/Logistics, Financial management ideally with focus on Ocean Freight
