The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical construction activities on site, including equipment erection, piping works, testing, and alignment. The role ensures that all mechanical works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality requirements, and HSE standards. The position supports smooth site execution through effective workforce management, planning, coordination, and progress monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Execution
Supervise and manage mechanical teams involved in equipment erection, alignment, testing, and associated mechanical works.
Organize daily work activities, manpower, tools, and equipment to achieve planned productivity and targets.
Ensure mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved method statements, procedures, drawings, and specifications.
Carry out and supervise equipment and piping alignment activities.
Planning & Coordination
Plan and organize construction activities to ensure optimum productivity, quality, and safety.
Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers, Mechanical Superintendents, QA/QC, and other departments to ensure smooth site workflow.
Identify requirements for scaffolding, lifting, tools, and site services in advance to avoid work disruptions.
Prepare material requisitions as per drawings and site requirements for field erection activities.
Permit to Work & HSE Compliance
Obtain and comply with Permit to Work (PTW) requirements for assigned activities.
Ensure all works are carried out in full compliance with Permit to Work conditions and project HSE procedures.
Enforce safe work practices and ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and PPE at site.
Quality Control & Inspection Support
Carry out material inspections and review Material Test Certificates (MTCs) to verify compliance with specifications and material traceability.
Ensure correct use of piping materials, welding consumables, and qualified welders in line with approved ranges.
Support pressure testing activities, including preparation of pressure test packages, checklists, and mechanical completion documentation.
Coordinate with Client, Contractor, and Quality Inspectors to facilitate inspections and approvals.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor work progress and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
Highlight constraints, delays, and resource issues to site management in a timely manner.
Support construction close-out activities including final walk-downs, punch listing, clearing punch points, and obtaining mechanical completion certificates.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
2–5 years of experience in industrial or oil & gas mechanical works, including piping, pipe support fabrication, erection, and pressure testing.
Strong knowledge of piping materials, welding consumables, and welder qualification ranges.
Familiarity with applicable international standards and specifications related to piping and welding.
Proficient in reading and interpreting piping drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, and engineering documents.
Experience in preparation of pressure test packages, checklists, and mechanical completion documentation.
Ability to manage workforce, tools, equipment, welding machines, and rigging accessories.
Conversant with project HSE requirements, work practices, and quality standards.
Good coordination, communication, and reporting skills.
Ability to work effectively in a site-based, fast-paced construction environment.
