Job Description

3.1 Provides direct care and related duties in critical care and maintains current knowledge of critical care nursing practice and standards.

3.2 Administer hearing tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment, using specialized instruments and electronic equipment.

3.2.1 Pure tone audiometry

3.2.2 Speech audiometry

3.2.3 Immittance measurement

3.2.4 Oto acoustic emission evaluation

3.2.5 Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)

3.2.6 Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA)

3.2.7 Play audiometry

3.2.8 Newborn hearing screening

3.3 Counsel and instruct clients in techniques to improve hearing or speech impairment, including sign language or lip-reading.

3.4 Selection and prescription of ear protective devices such ear plugs and ear muffs.

3.5 Evaluate hearing disorders to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.

3.6 Maintain client records at all stages, including initial evaluation and discharge.

3.7 Plan and conduct treatment programs for clients hearing or speech problems, consulting with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other health care personnel as necessary.

3.8 Recommend assistive devices according to clients needs or nature of impairments.

3.9 Refer clients to additional medical or educational services if needed.

3.10 Advise educators or other medical staff on speech or hearing topics.

3.11 Conduct or direct research on hearing or speech topics and report findings to help in the development of procedures, technology, or treatments.

3.12 Develop and supervise hearing screening programs.

3.13 Fit and tune cochlear implants, providing rehabilitation for adjustment to listening with implant amplification systems.

3.14 Instruct clients, parents, teachers, or employers in how to avoid behavior patterns that lead to miscommunication.

3.15 Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.

3.16 Measure noise levels in workplaces and conduct hearing protection programs in industry, schools, and communities.

3.17 Work with multi-disciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of implanted hearing devices.

3.18 Maintains current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment.

3.19 Fit and dispense hearing aids and assistive listening devices (e.g., FM system).

3.20 Otoscopic evaluation

3.21 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements

3.22 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities

3.23 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures

3.24 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports

3.25 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies

3.26 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs

3.27 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
