Job Description

The Stock Keeper plays a crucial role in the management and organization of inventory within a warehouse, retail store, or other business premises. This position requires a keen eye for detail and an ability to manage stock levels to ensure the smooth operation of the business. Stock Keepers are responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing goods as well as keeping track of inventory records. They must ensure that all stock is labeled correctly, safely stored, and easily accessible as needed. This role demands strong organizational skills, physical stamina, and an understanding of inventory management systems. Stock Keepers are essential in preventing overstock, reducing waste, and ensuring the efficient supply of stock throughout the business.


Responsibilities

  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments for discrepancies and damages.
  • Organize and store stock in designated locations for easy retrieval.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using manual or digital tracking systems.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure the accuracy of stock levels.
  • Collaborate with sales and purchasing staff to manage stock replenishment.
  • Ensure stockroom remains clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels and report any discrepancies or low stock issues.
  • Assist in the preparation and packing of orders for shipment or sale.
  • Resolve inventory-related queries from other departments or customers.
  • Implement stock rotation strategies to reduce spoilage or damage.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely, such as forklifts or pallet jacks.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for better inventory management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required for this position.
  • Proven experience as a Stock Keeper or similar inventory position.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to operate inventory management software systems with proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with team members and departments.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy items and prolonged standing.
  • Knowledge of safety and health standards in stockroom environments.
