Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor is critical in the construction industry, ensuring that building projects are delivered on time and within budget. This position encompasses the management of all costs associated with building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to the final figures. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in projects from the very start, preparing estimates and costs of the work, and you will be on hand throughout the course of the project. You will be expected to offer advice on contractual claims and valuations, oversee project expenditures, and ensure that all financial and regulatory obligations are met. To achieve success in this role, you need a comprehensive understanding of construction, contracts, and financial management.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and analysis for construction projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and price forecasts for project activities.
  • Manage and oversee budgets, ensuring efficient cost control measures.
  • Assess and measure construction work undertaken by contractors.
  • Administer contract documents and define the contractual obligations.
  • Negotiate and facilitate agreements between stakeholders and vendors.
  • Monitor project progress and prepare comprehensive reports on expenditures.
  • Provide expert advice on procurement and contracting strategies.
  • Analyze project risks and propose effective risk management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and financial regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers seamlessly.
  • Prepare and present detailed bills of quantities and tender documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor in construction projects.
  • Familiarity with construction methodologies and building codes and standards.
  • Strong proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent negotiation and analytical skills are essential for this role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Charter membership with recognized quantity surveying institutes preferred.
