Job Description

The Health and Safety Manager is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing and implementing health and safety policies and programs across an organization. This position ensures that the workplace complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations and strives to minimize risks, prevent workplace accidents, and protect the welfare of employees. As an advocate for safe working environments, the Health and Safety Manager conducts regular audits, training sessions, and inspections to ensure compliance and to promote a culture of safety. The individual in this role will collaborate with various departments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement solutions to mitigate them. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills, facilitating a proactive approach to health and safety challenges.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes.
  • Provide training and educational programs to promote safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to improve safety culture and awareness.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and training activities.
  • Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of safety equipment and facilities.
  • Review and update safety procedures and policies as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit detailed safety reports and documentation as required.
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans and procedures effectively.
  • Advise senior management on issues related to workplace safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in health and safety management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Certification in health and safety management, such as CSP or NEBOSH, preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to engage and train personnel.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the capacity to implement effective solutions.
