Job Description

A General Mechanical Technician II is an integral part of any mechanical engineering team, typically operating across various industries including manufacturing, automotive, and aerospace. This role involves performing routine maintenance, repair, and diagnostics on mechanical systems and equipment. The technician ensures that all machinery operates efficiently, adhering to safety and technical standards. Possessing a second-level expertise, a Mechanical Technician II is expected to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, execute preventive maintenance schedules, and offer technical support to junior technicians. Their contributions are crucial in minimizing downtime, enhancing operational efficiency, and safeguarding the longevity of mechanical systems. A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a detail-oriented approach are essential in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical problems on machinery and tools.
  • Repair or replace defective parts to restore equipment functionality efficiently.
  • Collaborate with engineers to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Document maintenance activities and machine performance metrics in detail.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level technicians.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols in all maintenance activities.
  • Operate various types of mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment safely.
  • Assist in the installation and testing of new mechanical systems and components.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in mechanical technologies and practices.
  • Optimize the use of resources and schedule maintenance activities to minimize production disruptions.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions to ensure quick resolution and minimal downtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical diploma in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical maintenance or a related field.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard safety practices and regulations is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime when necessary.
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is advantageous.
