The Crown Entity and State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Performance Team acts as stewards of Crown companies and entities on behalf of Ministers. We provide advice on governance, ownership, and performance, covering areas such as company strategy, accountability, key performance issues, financial reviews, and major investment decisions.

We work closely with Crown companies and entities, engaging regularly with senior leadership and boards to stay informed about key issues and workstreams. We also collaborate across the Treasury to share insights and improve performance across the public sector.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Analyst to join the Crown Entity and SOE Performance team to work with us to monitor the performance of Crown Entities and SOEs. This is a permanent position based in either Wellington or Auckland.

In this role you have the opportunity to

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Crown companies, entities, and their boards.
  • Apply a range of financial and other analytical tools to generate insights into performance, industry dynamics, and key drivers of value and risk.
  • Provide timely, well-analysed advice to Ministers, particularly the Minister of Finance, on the opportunities, challenges, and risks facing Crown companies and entities that we monitor.
  • Leverage your unique skills and expertise to support the team’s activities and contribute to The Treasury’s broader objectives.

We are seeking a well-rounded candidate who brings

  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to explain complex problems in a relatable way, develop succinct and accurate reports, and confidently lead discussions with boards and management.
  • Strong business acumen and financial analysis skills, as well as sound qualitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities to develop robust financial and strategic analysis, assess performance, and identify emerging challenges and opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with a highly collaborative approach to working with colleagues across a diverse organisation.
  • Experience and practical knowledge of strategic and commercial issues, with exposure to project management, transaction management, and/or investment assessment being an advantage.
  • The ability to translate commercial and numerical analysis into policy advice.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working in an agile environment.
  • An understanding of key public sector roles and functions.
