Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Onsite)


Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for their Vancouver, Washington location. This position is in the Facilities Engineering Group in the Transmission Services business line. Facilities Engineering is responsible for the coordination and design oversight of HVAC, plumbing, fire alarms, engine generator/fuel systems for all facilities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Northern California. This position provides scoping, design, design coordination/reviews and facilitates the construction/remodel/replacement of HVAC, controls, plumbing systems (water & waste), fire alarm and detection systems, engine generators and fuel systems on all facilities including Substations, Control Houses, Relay Houses, remote Radio Buildings, Maintenance Headquarters, Control Centers and miscellaneous support buildings. This position will also escort Architectural & Engineering firms and outside construction contractors for preparing assessments and surveys and conducting bid tours.

Key Responsibilities for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer:

  • Assesses and proposes resource needs for scoping (preliminary engineering and design), design and construction oversight.
  • Reviews and determines project requirements with scoping results.
  • Coordinates and participates in project kick-off meetings to discuss necessary resources and review project requirements.
  • Interprets program, and project requirements by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.
  • Identifies engineering problems and ensures solutions are implemented.
  • Facilitates across all disciplines for project scope refinement and associated preliminary engineering.
  • Facilitates the completion of project cost estimates.
  • Evaluates scoping and design schedules while monitoring project progress to coordinate activities and resolve problems.
  • Evaluates design quality through technical review of project design, specifications, plan and schedule, and recommending actions to assure minimal design modifications during construction.
  • Coordinates technical and design support requests as needed during the construction phase.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes project issues and trends to recommend actions.
  • Prepares project statements of works, progress reports, technical reports, evaluations, and other documents as required.
  • Acts as a central coordinator, facilitator and resolver for all technical aspects of a project.
  • Performs design of mechanical systems for in-house projects, as well as performs review of contracted out design.


Requirements/Qualifications for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (from an ABET accredited school), Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management or a directly related field is required
  • 5 years of engineering experience is required.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, principals, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission systems is required.
  • Experience with codes & standards (NFPA, NEC, ASHRAE, UPC)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Software including Word, Blue Beam, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
