Role objective

The Software Development Manager serves as the local leader responsible for managing

and developing a high-performing software development team of 6-20 professionals in

the Philippines. Working closely with the Head of Software Development, Lead Developers,

and Software Architects across our global teams, you will ensure the successful delivery of

complex software solutions while fostering team growth, maintaining quality standards,

and building a culture of excellence. Through effective people management, process

optimization, and strategic planning, you will drive team performance while ensuring

alignment with broader organizational objectives and seamless integration with our

Melbourne and Budapest operations.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Software Development Manager will include but are not limited to:

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and manage a team of 6-20 software developers, providing clear direction,

support, and professional development opportunities

  • Conduct comprehensive performance reviews twice per year, setting clear

objectives and career development plans for each team member

  • Identify and implement targeted plans to address individual and team skill gaps

through training, mentoring, and development initiatives

  • Manage team remuneration discussions, optimizing compensation strategies to

retain top talent and motivate high performance

  • Organize and facilitate team building events 2-4 times per year to foster

collaboration, morale, and team cohesion

  • Ensure all staff complete required training and compliance modules in accordance

with company policies and industry standards

Process Management & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure continuity and effectiveness of all agile sprint ceremonies including

refinement, planning, estimation, sprint closure, retrospectives, and bug triage

sessions

  • Establish and maintain high standards of code quality across all team deliverables,

ensuring quality is an implicit requirement in all work

  • Follow up on code reviews and remedial work on merge requests, ensuring

thorough peer review processes

  • Coordinate teamwork and deliverables to align with product release cycles and

deployment schedules

  • Implement and maintain best practices for development workflows, testing

strategies, and deployment processes

Resource & Operations Management

  • Strategically manage leave requests to maximize team productivity throughout the

year while ensuring adequate coverage

  • Coordinate grants and removals of access to necessary environments, tools,

information, and resources

  • Manage fair and reasonable rewards for planned and unplanned out-of-hours

work, ensuring team motivation and work-life balance

  • Oversee resource allocation and capacity planning to meet project commitments

and deadlines

  • Ensure team has access to appropriate development tools, training resources, and

technical infrastructure

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide regular updates to the Head of Software Development at least weekly, or

more frequently as needed, on pertinent team matters, progress, and challenges

  • Collaborate effectively with Lead Developers and Software Architects across

Melbourne, Budapest, and Philippines teams

  • Work closely with Business Analysts and Product Management to ensure clear

requirements understanding and delivery alignment

  • Facilitate cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Represent the Philippines team in broader engineering meetings and strategic

planning sessions

Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in regular planning sessions aligned with product roadmap and

technical strategy

  • Implement and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in development

processes, tooling, and team practices

  • Facilitate hiring and onboarding processes for new team members, ensuring

smooth integration into existing workflows

  • Monitor team performance metrics and implement data-driven improvements
  • Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and technical excellence within the team
