The Operations Administrator, Infrastructure will provide second- and third-line support for all global servers, storage, operating systems, virtualization, and directory services systems. The role-holder will perform deployment, operations and maintenance activities for all global servers and storage systems. The individual will enforce standards, policies, and procedures related to the operation of all servers, storage, and directory services systems in all locations.
Main responsibilities:
Track Server Systems tickets raised in the Firm’s help desk system
Build and configure Microsoft Server operating systems, including hypervisors and virtual machines
Patch Microsoft Windows operating system
Take part in the global follow‑the‑sun support model
Assist with occasional weekend activities; for example, server and storage installation or maintenance, and assist other teams with their weekend tasks
Provide 24x7 on‑call support to offices on a rota basis with other members of the Server Systems Team; this is normally required at weekends when standard follow‑the‑sun support does not operate
Provide Level 3 assistance to other support teams on projects
Carry out installation, maintenance, configuration, and support of servers and storage in regional data centers and office computer rooms, where applicable
Ensure server‑related and storage‑related capacity is maintained at the appropriate level
Operate and maintain the Firm’s Active Directory, operating systems, and virtualization environments
Perform routine scheduled maintenance on all servers
Assist with hardware specification and purchasing for new servers and storage
Support consolidation of server hardware to reduce server and warranty costs
Ensure server policies and standards are defined, followed, and maintained as they relate to hardware, software, and security per the Information Security Management System (ISMS) framework
Ensure all support incidents are tracked in the helpdesk system and worked through to resolution or escalated or re‑assigned as necessary per agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Maintain systems and ensure change control procedures are followed
Deliver IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations to alternative systems, and installation of new technologies
Contribute to documentation, including how‑tos, procedures, FAQs, and architectural diagrams; create and update documentation as required
Assist with training and mentoring other team members to raise the technical skill level of the team
Review system error logs and identify and correct issues
Retain up‑to‑date skills relevant to the position through training and periodic review of technical journals, white papers, and manuals
Ensure high‑quality communication with Service Delivery and other IT staff, keeping them updated on the status of their incidents
Participate in and contribute to regular conference calls and meetings with the Server Systems Team and other Server Teams
Liaise with colleagues in technical teams, vendors, and other third parties as necessary
Keep team members and end users informed of incident status and escalate when additional assistance is required
Estimate and report time spent on activities
Maintain access and control of system and application service‑account credentials; these credentials cannot be shared with individuals outside Global Information Services (GIS), Financial Management Systems, or the Systems Operations Center groups
Any other tasks assigned by the management
Skills and experience:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is preferred
Microsoft Certified Professional or other relevant recognized qualification
Strong experience in supporting and maintaining the global Active Directory infrastructure, including security and naming standards
Proficient in designing and supporting the following products:
Microsoft Windows Server operating systems
Dell PowerEdge and HP ProLiant servers
SAN technologies, preferably NetApp, Pure, or 3PAR
VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper‑V, and virtualization technologies
vCenter and System Center Virtual Machine Manager
Active Directory technologies
DNS and DHCP
Automation and scripting technologies, including PowerShell
Familiar with the following technologies:
Microsoft System Center products including SCVMM, SCCM and SCOM
Linux Operating System (CentOS, Ubuntu, Suse)
Backup technologies (esp. Rubrik)
Hardware and Software lifecycles
Good experience with Microsoft Operating systems, supporting multi-site and multi-location architecture
Experience in working within very large enterprise environment with remote locations
Able to keep incidents within Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Able to work independently without direct supervision; able to work collaboratively and take initiative
Can demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
Willing to travel domestically and internationally when requested
