Asurion is looking for an engineer to join the Data Governance team, focusing on operational excellence through tool administration, ROT (Redundant, Obsolete, Trivial) data remediation and retention policy enforcement. An ideal candidate has automation skills and experience as a data analyst and/or with data catalogs.
Our team is responsible for maturing Asurion’s data governance program globally. We achieve this through continually innovating and improving our technological solutions and partnering with stakeholders across geographies and functions. Our team is focused on providing the best experience for our users to make the right decisions regarding our data.
Because of Asurion’s decentralized structure, this is not a traditional governance position. Success in the role requires flexibility, dealing with ambiguity and building relationships across the global enterprise. Partnering across teams, building consensus and promoting the tangible value of data governance will win over formality and top-down directives.
Day to Day tasks:
Build practical, scalable data governance capabilities that work for our fast-growing, innovative company.
Utilize platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Securiti.ai, or Cyera to identify, classify and remediate ROT data across the global enterprise.
Administer and champion adoption of data catalog tools like Alation, Atlan or Collibra to improve data discoverability, lineage, and metadata management.
Partner with teams to implement and monitor adherence to the data retention schedule.
Implement effective ways to collect, analyze and present information about Asurion’s data assets.
Design, develop and deploy automation solutions to streamline data governance workflows, enhance effectiveness and reduce operational overhead.
Engage stakeholders within the Technology and Product teams to understand data flows and business processes with a data security mindset.
Use knowledge of data modelling, data integration and ETL to develop technical processes.
Support Security teams in driving effective responses to information security events.
Proactively learn new tools, concepts and methods to achieve goals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology or related field.
3+ years’ experience with SQL, Python, Node.js, Java, or similar.
2+ years’ experience with data governance concepts including metadata management, data classification, and data lifecycle management.
Experience operationalizing data retention processes for structured and unstructured data systems.
Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships across teams, preferably in a global enterprise environment.
The persistence to identify ambiguous challenges and drive them resolution with limited supervision.
Strong sense of ownership over your work, with proven strategies to quality check work before submission.
The ability and the desire to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to:
Translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives
Influence and build consensus with stakeholders
Create presentations and documentation
Preferred Experience:
Data Catalogs administration (eg, Alation, Atlan, Collibra)
Data Security Posture Management (eg. Purview, Securiti.ai, Cyera)
Cloud Platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
PowerBI, DataBricks AI/BI or similar reporting tools.
Building automation solutions using Python libraries (pandas, requests, boto3) to enhance data governance effectiveness.
