Job Description

The Manager, Data Governance and Management is responsible for implementing and managing the organization's data governance, data quality, and data management practices. The role ensures that enterprise data remains accurate, secure, compliant, and fit-for-purpose across business and technology platforms.

Working closely with Business, IT, Risk, Compliance, Architecture, and Analytics teams, the role supports the adoption of data governance standards, data quality controls, metadata management, and regulatory compliance requirements while helping strengthen data management maturity across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance Implementation

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the enterprise data governance framework.
  • Coordinate with business and technology stakeholders to establish data ownership and stewardship responsibilities.
  • Facilitate governance forums, working groups, and stakeholder discussions related to data management initiatives.
  • Promote adherence to data governance policies, standards, and procedures across projects and operational processes.

Data Management & Standards

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of standards covering:
    • Master data
    • Reference data
    • Transactional data
    • Analytical data
  • Assist in managing data lifecycle, classification, retention, and archival requirements.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to maintain consistent data definitions across systems and platforms.
Data Quality Management

  • Manage data quality activities, including monitoring, issue identification, and remediation tracking.
  • Support the implementation of data quality controls, rules, and thresholds.
  • Coordinate root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring data quality issues.
  • Prepare data quality reports and dashboards for stakeholders.

Metadata, Lineage & Data Catalog

  • Maintain and enhance enterprise metadata repositories, business glossaries, and data catalog capabilities.
  • Support documentation of data lineage and traceability across critical systems and data flows.
  • Promote awareness and adoption of data catalog and metadata management practices.

Regulatory, Privacy & Compliance

  • Support compliance with data privacy regulations, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate data governance activities during audits, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
  • Assist in implementing data access controls, data classification, masking, and related governance controls.
  • Work with Risk, Compliance, and Security teams to address data-related control requirements.

Data Architecture & Platform Alignment

  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Data Platform, and Application teams to ensure governance requirements are incorporated into solution delivery.
  • Support the adoption of data standards within data warehouses, lakehouses, integrations, and analytics platforms.
  • Participate in project reviews to ensure alignment with governance policies and standards.

Governance Adoption & Change Management

  • Support the development of a community of data stewards and governance champions.
  • Conduct awareness sessions, training programs, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Assist in embedding data governance practices into SDLC, change management, and operational processes.

Metrics & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and report data quality, governance adoption, and compliance metrics.
  • Develop dashboards and management reports on data governance effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data management processes, controls, and governance maturity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in:
    • Data management
    • Data governance
    • Data quality
    • Analytics, reporting, or enterprise systems
  • At least 3–5 years of experience leading teams, projects, or governance initiatives.
  • Experience with:
    • Data governance frameworks (DAMA, DCAM, or equivalent)
    • Data quality management
    • Metadata and data lineage
    • Regulatory and compliance-related data controls
  • Experience in regulated industries such as insurance, banking, or financial services is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Data, IT, Business, or related field.
  • DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, CDMP, or similar certifications.
  • Experience with:
    • Data catalogs
    • Data quality platforms
    • Master data management solutions
    • Cloud-based data platforms
    • Modern data ecosystems (DWH, lakehouse, BI, analytics platforms)

  • Practical understanding of governance, controls, and risk management.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across business and technology teams.
