Digital API Lead Principal Engineer

Purpose of the role

The Digital API Lead Principal Engineer provides technical leadership over the Navitaire Digital API (DAPI), and for the Digital API Shared Subsystem Team and its customers and contributors. Given the acceleration in pushing the DAPI as the primary integration point at Navitaires edge, along with the move to push the ownership of endpoint development to the value streams, there is an increased need to orchestrate these competing shifts to ensure that a solid and robust platform continues to support the DAPI, all while ensuring that standards and best practices are adhered to as more teams participate in its evolution. This role is key in providing vision for the DAPIs technical evolution, as well as providing leadership in its governance and strategies in educating its users/customers.

The ideal candidate is a senior engineer who has significant experience building and supporting REST APIs or other complex shared subsystems, working in production environments, and who has a positive track record of working directly with and supporting multiple stakeholders and customers.

In This Role Youll

Technical Leadership over DAPI

• Designing, testing and troubleshooting for the DAPI
• Participating in scrum events and conducting code reviews
• Establishing code review practices in the DAPI team that align proposed solutions with prescribed coding standards following efficient, robust and secure patterns
• Understanding New Skies (patterns, process flows and customer-specific configurations), Navitaire / customer-side architecture, infrastructure and middleware to the extent of understanding impact on and ensuring synergy with DAPI
• Utilizing telemetry emitted by DAPI to various platforms (e.g. Dynatrace, Splunk) to monitor, analyze and provide recommendations around DAPI performance and behavior in customer environments
  
  

DAPI Governance

• Establishing and industrializing the DAPI teams ownership of the API First initiative
• Developing strategies and programs with the DAPI team in assisting the value streams adoption and proper utilization of the DAPI (API First initiative)
• Facilitating collaboration with other groups (e.g. New Skies, value streams, Services, Product, Accenture) on technical matters involving the DAPI
  
  

About The Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software design and development experience in OOP and Microsoft .NET (C#, .NET Core, etc.). They should be familiar with SOLID principles.
• Familiarity with working in cloud environments (Microsoft Azure, PaaS, IaaS, etc.).
• Comfortable in working in an agile environment that promotes active communication, feedback and exchange of ideas.
• Can participate in regular sprint or stakeholder meetings and activities that could be scheduled in the morning and/or evening
• Should have strong communication skills, initiative and ability to raise necessary questions, explain code design, demo product output, and secure buy-in from stakeholders on a regular basis.
• Knowledge and work experience in API development (API-first approach, REST, etc.) would be favorable.
• Knowledge and work experience in any of the following would be favorable:
• Airline industry
