We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Vice President Performance Services (Internal Title) Innovation and Development Manager (External Title)

Role Purpose

The Innovation and Development Manager (AVP Performance Services) play a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Data Management to unlock the value of Data and AI across the bank. This role is responsible for driving data & AI commercialization initiatives, implementing robust data controls, and enabling data-led projects that align with HSBC’s strategic objectives. The role requires strong technical and effective stakeholder engagement, clear communication, and strong collaboration with senior management and global business/functions (GBs/GFs) to ensure successful in-country execution. Success in this position will be measured by the ability to translate data insights into business value, foster a culture of data-driven decision making, and uphold the highest standards of data governance and compliance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Deliver data commercialization and AI-driven use cases using tools such as SAS, Altair, SQL, Big Query, Google Cloud Platform, Vertex AI, Qlik Sense, Python, and relevant AI/ML frameworks to support analytics, reporting, and regulatory requirements, with a focus on generating actionable business insights.
  • Lead the development and rollout of AI solutions (including the usage of large language models and AI workflows) to address business challenges and unlock new opportunities, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s strategic objectives.
  • Drive effective execution of data-led and AI-driven projects and strategic initiatives by ensuring clear stakeholder engagement, proactive communication, and efficient in-country delivery.
  • Provide development and project management support for regulatory reporting initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
  • Drive the implementation of data controls across the Bank’s Global Businesses and Global Functions (GBs/GFs), ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Support the facilitation of data governance forums (including the Country Data Executive Council), ensuring robust governance frameworks, comprehensive documentation, and effective management controls.
  • Proactively identify and compile data compliance risks across multiple GBs/GFs, providing timely insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Support the Country DAO in sharing and adopting data and AI best practices and assist in managing data and AI-related risks in alignment with the Operational Risk Management Framework, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Develop and deliver content and training materials for foundational data and AI literacy and analytics training sessions.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

  • Proven experience in handling large data sets, with strong familiarity in data tools and techniques (e.g. SAS, SQL, Big Query, Google Cloud Platform, Qlik Sense, Python, and relevant AI/ML frameworks)
  • Demonstrated capability in developing and rolling out AI-driven use cases to market, including practical understanding of AI workflows and large language models (LLMs), Vertex AI etc.
  • Experience in business analytics, business intelligence, reporting, and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense, etc.)
  • Experience in project management
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks, documentation standards, and management controls
  • Ability to proactively identify, assess, and manage data and AI-related risks in alignment with the Operational Risk Management Framework
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to spot and execute improvement opportunities within the data and AI domain
  • Strong relationship management, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to drive stakeholder engagement and effective communication
  • Experience developing and delivering content and training materials for foundational data and AI literacy and analytics training sessions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language, supporting problem analysis through summary reports, dashboards, and visual representation
  • Microsoft SharePoint and Powers Apps development knowledge is a plus
