What you’ll do
As our Senior Design Systems Specialist, you are the lead architect and hands-on builder of the engine that powers the Everyday Rewards UI and member experience. You don’t just oversee a system; you get into the weeds of tokens, component logic, CMS integration and Figma architecture. You will own the evolution of our local design language, ensuring it is technically robust, WCAG-compliant, and seamlessly synced with the Woolworths Group Core Design System.
You see the big picture of the Woolworths Group ecosystem but truly sweat the details of a pixel-perfect data table or a complex hover state.
Core responsibilities:
Actively build, evolve, and document UI components and design tokens as the primary "maker," ensuring libraries are scalable and high-performing. Maintain "best-in-class" Figma libraries and integrate Core design tokens.
Be the hands-on expert for WCAG 2.2 standards. Document accessibility specs, such as keyboard navigation maps and screen-reader behavior, within component handoff files.
Define and execute the "Definition of Done" for components. Establish contribution guidelines to allow designers to propose patterns without breaking system integrity and define component use case guidelines.
Act as the technical bridge and ambassador to Woolworths Group design guilds. Advocate for EDR-specific requirements, like high-density data patterns, and integrate Group updates into the local workflow.
Partner closely with developers to resolve implementation friction, guaranteeing code mirrors Figma designs. Lead high-priority project delivery by applying the design system.
Own the UI direction and lead the design systems visual transition into a modern, scalable framework, staying current with OS updates. Define UI for AI tools.
Set the "bar" for visual craft by providing feedback to all designers. Ensure the UI direction across the entire design pod is cohesive and aligned to core design principles.
What you’ll bring
The "System" Mindset: A strong portfolio showcasing the actual construction of multi-platform design systems, including component audits, token structures, and documentation.
Technical Literacy: Expert-level knowledge of Figma. You should be comfortable discussing front-end constraints (React, CSS/Sass, JSON) and how they relate to design tokens.
Governance Expertise: Experience managing a component lifecycle, from initial proposal and stress-testing to deprecation and versioning.
Complexity Management: Ability to organize ambiguous problem spaces into structured, digestible design patterns. You thrive on making the complex feel simple.
Team Player: A track record of partnering with Engineers and Product Managers to drive system adoption and bridge the gap between design and production.
Strategic Execution: You can pivot from building a single icon to discussing the long-term roadmap for the entire system.
What you’ll experience
We embrace diversity of thought and love to take on challenges with a pragmatic and innovative approach. Our culture thrives on mutual respect, care, curiosity, openness, and a proactive attitude. We continually seek ways to pair, collaborate, support, and learn from each other as a team!
Team discounts across our range of Woolworths Group brands you know and love and a robust rewards program that celebrates and incentivises purpose-driven work
