Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to reduce preventable injuries to children ages 0-19 and building sustainable systems to protect all families.

Safe Kids works with strategic partners and an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. We achieve this work through a public health approach that includes research, interventions to educate and raise awareness, safety device distribution and advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels. Safe Kids also supports a worldwide alliance of like-minded organizations in more than 20 countries. Since 1988, Safe Kids and its partners have contributed to a more than 60 percent reduction in the rate of fatal childhood preventable injury in the U.S.

The Program Associate will coordinate Safe Kids injury prevention programs and assist with developing program resources in collaboration with Senior Program Associates and Program Managers based on research of best practice for effective program implementation. He/she will disseminate requests for proposals, monitor grant programs and promote participation of the Safe Kids network in programs and campaigns. He/she will become the primary contact for one of the following injury areas: Road, Home, Play . The Program Associate will serve as a liaison between the Safe Kids U.S. network and Safe Kids Worldwide staff, and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure child safety information is disseminated accurately and effectively to public audiences. Domestic travel may be required.

Minimum Education

Bachelors Degree preferably in Public Health, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Health Education/Promotion (Required) Or Relevant experience beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a 1-to-1 ratio i.e. one year of relevant work experience equals one year of required education (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

2 years Related of work experience in public health, injury prevention or program implementation fields. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge

Knowledge of public health models, experience with program implementation and monitoring/evaluation preferred.

Culturally sensitive individual that takes initiative and responsibility of assigned tasks and projects.

Detail-oriented individual with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and communicate at multiple management and staff levels.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong analytical and report writing skills a must.

Experience Manipulating And Summarizing Quantitative And Qualitative Data Preferred.

Demonstrates ability to implement educational/community-based programs.

Functional Accountabilities

Coordinates Grant Programs

  • Coordinates and implements project timelines.
  • Coordinates grant programs and initiatives in accordance with the organizations strategic mission and objectives.
  • Develops expertise in multiple areas of child injury prevention to ensure sound program development and implementation.
  • Assists with conducting program-based research on child injury risks and effective interventions to support development of implementation plans. Summarizes research findings and information on evidence-based practice in written reports.
  • Coordinates requests for proposals and grant applications
  • Participates in and assists with coordinating Safe Kids’ webinars to provide essential program information and trainings to the network.

Monitors Grant Programs

  • Assists with monitoring adherence to grant guidelines and reporting schedules.
  • Coordinates grant monitoring and reporting. Prepares written reports on grant program activities, successes, challenges and communities served.
  • Communicates effectively with the Safe Kids network and provides ongoing technical assista

Promotes Safe Kids Programs and Resources

  • Assists with developing educational resources for programs and initiatives, based on program research and injury data.
  • Reviews program materials and web properties to ensure injury prevention content is current and relevant.
  • Responds to requests from general public and provides information about child injury risks and prevention.
  • Assists with and participates in the organization’s global childhood injury prevention conferences, meetings and events.
