Job Description

Shopware is a leading e-commerce platform that empowers businesses worldwide to scale quickly and efficiently in digital commerce. As a future-proof open-source solution, Shopware is trusted by some of the largest European brands, retailers, and manufacturers in both B2C and B2B.

As a Senior Legal Counsel (m/f/d), you will be part of our Legal team and support the business on legal matters with a focus on IT, data protection, and commercial law in an international environment – regardless of your location.

You will negotiate and draft complex B2B, SaaS, and data protection agreements, advising internal stakeholders in a pragmatic and solution-oriented way. At the same time, you will contribute your expertise to further develop contract standards and legal processes.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, you act as a trusted business partner, combining strong legal expertise with a clear commercial mindset. Fluency in German and English is essential.

This position can be filled on-site, hybrid, but also full-remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.

These are your tasks:

  • Negotiate contracts and advise the business You take on a key role in negotiating and drafting complex B2B, IT, and data protection agreements with national and international customers. You advise our teams in a pragmatic, solution-oriented way, always keeping business needs in mind.
  • Shape data protection and IT law topics You are a key point of contact for data protection matters and related areas of IT law. With your experience, you help identify legal risks early and develop practical solutions in a dynamic, tech-driven environment.
  • Develop standards and processes You contribute to the development of contract templates, guidelines, and legal processes, helping to make our Legal team more efficient and scalable.
  • Be part of a strong Legal team You work closely with colleagues in the Legal team as well as internal stakeholders across different departments and countries. You act as a sparring partner for the business while being a true team player.
  • Work in an international environment You operate in an innovative, international setting and take ownership of legal topics that are critical to the company’s continued growth.

This is what you’ll bring to the table:

  • Strong legal background: You hold a law degree (fully qualified German lawyer - second state exam preferred; alternatively LL.M. or a comparable qualification with relevant professional experience), and bring at least 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in IT, data protection, and/or commercial law—ideally within a software company. You are comfortable working in a technology-driven environment and know how to approach legal matters in a practical, business-oriented way.
  • Business mindset and pragmatism: You combine solid legal judgment with a strong commercial mindset, enabling you to find pragmatic solutions and assess risks effectively.
  • Experience with complex contracts: You have experience negotiating and drafting IT, SaaS, data protection, and commercial agreements and thrive in a tech-driven environment.
  • Collaborative approach: You enjoy working with diverse teams and stakeholders, communicate clearly, and actively contribute to the Legal team.
  • Language skills: You are able to communicate complex legal matters clearly and effectively in both German and English.

What Makes This Role Special

  • Opportunity to join and shape a growing Legal team in an international software company
  • Broad, high-impact role with real ownership and visibility across the business
  • Exposure to complex and commercially relevant SaaS, IT, and data protection matters
  • Close collaboration with diverse stakeholders in a dynamic tech environment
  • Ability to improve and professionalize legal processes, not just work within existing structures
  • A unique mix of hands-on legal work and strategic influence
  • Highly collaborative team culture with room to contribute your experience and shape the function

This is what we offer you:

  • Company Culture: Open culture with flat hierarchies, where individual initiative is encouraged.
  • Employment Contracts: Permanent positions that offer long-term security.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for mobile work and full-remote contracts.
  • Equipment: Freedom to choose your preferred work hardware.
  • Onboarding: Well-structured onboarding with support from a personal "buddy."
  • Work Environment: An inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
  • Development Opportunities: Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
  • Additional Benefits: Attractive perks such as company pension plans, health programs, and regular team events.
  • and much more!
