Senior Regulatory Compliance Manager

Examples of Duties

Typical duties performed, include, but are not limited to oversight of daily operations to ensure alignment with departmental objectives and organizational priorities. Dependent upon service area, may manage and direct staff to maintain efficient workflows, ensuring productivity and high-quality outcomes. Develop, implement, and evaluate operational strategies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement. Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support departmental initiatives. Perform other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Substitution: Two (2) years of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking. Six (6) years of full-time management experience required. Four (4) years of demonstrated leadership experience. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement effective solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities

Compliance Program Oversight

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organization’s NERC compliance program.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable NERC Reliability Standards and regional entity requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update internal policies accordingly.
  • Lead the departmental review of the NERC CIP standards under development including coordinating with subject matter experts (managers, supervisors, engineers, technicians, etc.) outside of the department.
  • Build, lead, and coach a high-performing compliance team; set goals, assign work, and balance workload to reduce overtime while maintaining audit readiness.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Conduct compliance risk assessments for operations and assets.
  • Identify potential compliance gaps and develop mitigation plans.
  • Oversee internal controls to prevent violations.

Audit & Evidence Management

  • Prepare for and manage NERC audits, spot checks, and self-certifications.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation and evidence repositories.
  • Respond to data requests from regulators in a timely and accurate manner.

Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs for staff.
  • Promote a culture of compliance across the organization.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare compliance reports for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Communicate regulatory updates and compliance status to stakeholders.

Incident Management

  • Investigate potential compliance violations or events.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and report findings to NERC or regional entities as required.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with operations, engineering, legal, and IT teams to ensure compliance integration.
  • Support project teams in understanding compliance implications for new initiatives.

Regulatory Liaison

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with NERC and regional reliability organizations including Reliability First.
  • Participate in industry forums and stay informed on emerging compliance trends.

Additional Qualifications

  • Law Degree, Engineering Degree or Degree in Computer Science is preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to understand difficult reading material, and apply standards and regulations to CPP is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and expertise in cybersecurity and project management is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge in computers and computer software is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and regional compliance requirements are highly preferred.
  • Expertise interpreting and applying utility regulations, laws, rules, and standards including federal, state, local, and environmental are highly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills are highly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines are highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in compliance management tools and reporting systems are highly preferred.
