Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze production processes, workflows, and systems to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct time studies, work measurements, and capacity analyses to develop labor standards and optimize manpower allocation.
  • Lead and implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S initiatives across departments.
  • Design and optimize plant layouts, workstations, and material flow for maximum space and process efficiency.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to track KPIs, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure alignment with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Support ERP and MES systems to streamline inventory, production planning, and resource management.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth operations and project execution.
  • Participate in cost analysis, process simulations, and feasibility studies to support capital investment decisions.
  • Drive and sustain a culture of continuous improvement and innovation throughout the organization.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, operations, or process engineering environment.
  • Proficient in Lean tools, Six Sigma methodologies, and time study techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of process mapping, data analysis, and project management.
  • Skilled in tools such as AutoCAD/SolidWorks, Excel, Minitab, or simulation software.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Skills

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Industrial Engineering principles, manufacturing systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficient in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and waste elimination techniques.
  • Experience conducting time studies, work measurement, labor utilization analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, inventory control, and material flow optimization.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing data using statistical and analytical tools to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Power BI, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar manufacturing execution systems.
  • Familiarity with process simulation, plant layout design, workstation ergonomics, and facility optimization.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and corrective/preventive action methodologies.
  • Knowledge of optical fabrication processes, including grinding, polishing, coating, metrology, cleaning, assembly, and yield improvement, is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily works in a manufacturing and production environment supporting optics fabrication operations.
  • Regular presence on the production floor to observe processes, conduct studies, and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Frequent interaction with production operators, technicians, engineers, supervisors, and management personnel.
  • May require prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout manufacturing areas.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment, machinery, chemicals, and cleanroom environments while following established safety procedures.
  • Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Work may involve supporting multiple shifts, equipment qualifications, process validations, and production improvement projects.
  • Occasional lifting of materials, equipment, or tools in accordance with company safety guidelines.
  • May require occasional domestic and international travel for training, benchmarking, audits, supplier visits, or support of other Coherent facilities.
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary to support critical production, customer, or business requirements.
