Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

Adjunct Instructor – Applied Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Multimedia courses. This position supports the College’s academic and workforce mission by providing students with practical, handson instruction aligned with current industry practices and emerging technologies.

Position Summary

The Adjunct Instructor will deliver instruction in applied artificial intelligence and multimedia concepts with a strong emphasis on realworld application. Courses may be offered in facetoface, hybrid, or online formats and may include evening, or weekend schedules. Courses may support credit programs, workforce training, or non‑credit offerings and are designed to prepare students for careers in technology, digital media, creative industries, and applied computing fields.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Teach applied artificial intelligence and multimedia courses in accordance with approved curriculum
  • Emphasize handson, projectbased learning using current industry tools and technologies
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records
  • Foster a supportive learning environment for students with diverse educational and professional backgrounds
  • Integrate realworld examples and occupational experience into classroom instruction
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to support program goals and continuous improvement
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and advancements in artificial intelligence and multimedia technologies

Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSAs/Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a closely related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related occupational experience in applied artificial intelligence, multimedia, digital media, information technology, or a closely related industry
  • Demonstrated ability to teach technical concepts in an applied, workforce focused setting

Additional Considerations

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience in higher education, workforce development, or industry
  • Experience with applied AI tools, platforms, or workflows
  • Experience with multimedia technologies such as digital graphics, video, audio, animation, or interactive media
