Job Description

An Automation Technician plays a crucial role in various industries by ensuring that automation systems and equipment operate efficiently and effectively. As an Automation Technician, you will work closely with engineers and other technical professionals to install, troubleshoot, and maintain automated systems. This involves the ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, understand programming logic, and apply advanced problem-solving skills to resolve issues with automation machinery. You will be responsible for not only repairing and upgrading systems but also identifying areas for efficiency optimization. Moreover, you will provide support and training to operational teams on the use of automated systems to ensure smooth and continued operation. This position requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in using hand and power tools, and a commitment to keeping up-to-date with the latest advancements in automation technology.


Responsibilities

  • Install and configure automation equipment according to specified procedures and standards.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and inspections on automated systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with control systems and mechanical components.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement custom automation solutions.
  • Perform software updates and modifications on programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations during all automation activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff on automation systems and processes.
  • Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair activities conducted on automation systems.
  • Analyze system performance data to identify areas for improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Identify and recommend upgrades or enhancements to existing automation equipment.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide input on automation capabilities and limitations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Automation Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience working with automated systems or equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, PLCs, and human-machine interfaces (HMIs).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented and analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and reporting.
