Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
BIR & Statutory Filing: Own and oversee the accurate and timely preparation and filing of all national and local tax returns, including Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Value-Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Taxes (EWT/WT), and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).
Local Government Unit (LGU) Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local business taxes, permits, and LGU reporting requirements across all Philippine delivery center locations.
Tax Provisioning: Manage and review the tax provision calculation and documentation for financial reporting purposes, ensuring accurate accounting for deferred taxes in compliance with PFRS/IFRS/US GAAP.
System Integrity: Work closely with the accounting team to ensure ERP/accounting systems are configured and maintained to generate tax-compliant data, minimizing manual adjustments.
Tax Strategy & Advisory
Strategic Advisory: Serve as the internal tax expert, providing proactive advice and research on the tax implications of new business initiatives, commercial contracts, intercompany transactions, and changes to the BPO service model.
Tax Incentives: Manage and ensure continuous compliance with all government tax incentive registrations (e.g., PEZA or BOI), maximizing available benefits while ensuring strict adherence to reporting requirements.
Transfer Pricing: Assist the CFO/Group Finance team with local transfer pricing documentation, intercompany agreements, and ensuring that all transactions comply with arms length principles.
Tax Audit & Risk Management
BIR Audit Management: Lead and manage all tax audits, assessments, and disputes initiated by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and other government agencies. This includes preparing and submitting all necessary documentation, managing official communications, and negotiating resolutions.
Risk Mitigation: Continuously monitor changes to Philippine tax laws (e.g., updates to the CREATE Law) and assess the potential impact on the companys financial position, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risks.
Policy Development: Develop and enforce tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to maintain the highest level of tax compliance and governance across the organization.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Team Development: Lead, mentor, and train the junior tax and accounting staff, ensuring high-quality performance and continuous professional development in tax compliance and process improvement.
External Liaison: Manage relationships with external tax consultants, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies (BIR, SEC, PEZA) to ensure the company receives timely and accurate advice.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Accountancy, or related field.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is mandatory. A Masters degree in Taxation or equivalent certification is a significant advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the tax function, with at least 3 years in a managerial role, preferably gained from a multinational company, BPO/Shared Service Center, or a Big Four accounting firm.
Technical Knowledge:
Expert knowledge of the Philippine Tax Code and BIR compliance procedures.
Demonstrated experience successfully handling BIR Audits and assessments.
Working knowledge of tax incentives (PEZA/BOI) and international tax concepts.
Skills: Exceptional analytical and research skills, high attention to detail, and a proven ability to interpret and apply complex tax legislation to business operations.
Software: Proficiency with major ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced MS Excel skills.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate complex tax issues clearly to non-finance executives.
Core Competencies: Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Must be a strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
