Position Overview

RecruitGo is searching for an experienced SMSF Manager to lead the oversight, coordination, and delivery of Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) services within an Australian accounting environment. This role is responsible for ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with superannuation and tax regulations, effective workflow management, team leadership, and high-quality client service. The ideal candidate brings strong SMSF technical expertise, proven accounting firm experience, and the ability to drive accountability, governance, and continuous improvement across the SMSF division.

Responsibilities

SMSF Technical Oversight:

  • Oversee Completion of SMSF: Accounts and Tax Returns to ensure compliance with Australian Taxation

and SISA: Requirements.

  • Review SMSF: Financial Statements - Reconciliations and Supporting Schedules prior to finalisation.
  • Maintain Oversight of Fund Completion and Ownership across the SMSF: Client Base.
  • Manage and respond to ASF: Audit Queries - with escalation where required.
  • Ensure Accurate and Consistent Preparation of SMSF Client Packages.
  • Provide Technical Guidance and Support to SMSF: Team Members.
  • Escalate Technical Risks or Compliance Issues to relevant Directors as required.

Workflow Management:

  • Manage SMSF Division Workflow Prioritisation and Capacity Planning.
  • Allocate SMSF Work across the Team in line with Capability - Capacity and Priorities.
  • Lead and co-ordinate SMSF Workflow Meetings - including Progress Updates and Issue Resolution.
  • Oversee ECR Tracking - SMSF Control Sheets and AO Task Management.
  • Review Timesheets regularly to ensure accuracy - Productivity and Workflow Alignment.
  • Monitor Lodgement Programs - YETP and related Deadlines.
  • Ensure Issues impacting Delivery are identified early and escalated appropriately.

Team Leadership - Communication:

  • Provide Day-to-Day Leadership and Direction to the SMSF Team.
  • Act as the First Point of Escalation for SMSF-related Team Queries.
  • Support On-the-Job Learning and Capability Development within the Team.
  • Foster clear - consistent and constructive Communication across the SMSF Team.
  • Build Confidence and Ownership within Team Members through Delegation and Support.
  • Maintain strong Working Relationships.

Client Ownership - Service Delivery:

  • Take Ownership of the SMSF Division Client Base and Client Experience.
  • Ensure timely and professional Client Communication and Follow-Up.
  • Oversee Client Queries and CIR: Follow-Ups across the SMSF Division.
  • Support Directors with Client Relationship Management [CRM] as required.
  • Ensure Client Service aligns with the Client Care Program.
  • Identify Opportunities for Value Add and escalate appropriately.

Governance - Improvement - Development:

  • Maintain Oversight of SMSF: Control Processes - Templates and Systems.
  • Ensure consistent use of Control Sheets - Workflow Tools and Procedures.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement across SMSF: Processes and Ways of Working.
  • Maintain up-to-date Technical Knowledge and SMSF Regulatory Awareness
  • Participate in Training - Development and Knowledge Sharing Activities.
  • Support Implementation of Agreed Process or System Changes.
  • Escalate Governance or Risk Concerns appropriately.

Qualifications

  • 7 Years Accounting Firm [Minimum]
  • Bachelor Degree Accounting [Related Field]
  • Strong Technical Knowledge of SMSF: Accounting - Taxation and Superannuation Legislation.
  • Ability to identify Compliance Risks and apply appropriate Judgement.
  • High attention to detail with a Quality Control mindset.
  • Ability to review Work prepared by Others and provide Constructive Feedback.
  • Strong Workflow Planning and Coordination Skills.
  • Ability to manage competing Priorities and Deadlines.
  • Confidence in making Decisions related to Work Allocation and Escalation.
  • Ability to interpret Workflow Data - Control Sheets and Reporting.
