Your Role
As a Payroll Officer, you will:
Process end-to-end weekly and fortnightly international payrolls, primarily focusing on Australian operations alongside PNG, NZ, and other regions.
Execute rigorous payroll audits, system checks, and reconciliations to eliminate errors and ensure accurate deductions, manual pays, and termination payments.
Maintain comprehensive and confidential employee records, updating accrued entitlements according to specific Industrial (labour) Agreements and pay classifications.
Resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees and site teams efficiently, ensuring a strong, customer-focused service culture.
Generate advanced costing modules, commercial reports, and external portal updates for third-party payments.
What You Need
Non-negotiables
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of high-volume payroll experience in a similar role within an Australian or international payroll environment.
Education: Equivalent of an Australian Year 12 education as a minimum requirement.
Technical Skills: Strong computer skills, specifically intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, a high standard of accuracy, and a strict appreciation for data confidentiality.
Soft Skills: Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, strong problem-solving skills, and well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills/expertise
System Knowledge: Prior hands-on experience with Ascender Pay or similar large-scale HR/Payroll ERP systems.
Industry Exposure: Background working within an Australian engineering, construction, or high-volume contractor environment (handling various contractual types).
Qualifications: A tertiary qualification or certification in Human Resources or Accounting is highly regarded.
Process Improvement: A proactive mindset focused on identifying payroll process improvements and maximizing customer service.
Geographic Scope: Multi-country payroll exposure (e.g., New Zealand, Papua New Guinea) in addition to Australia.
