Position Summary: Join our Medical Design Team as Lead Electronic Engineer and provide technical and people leadership for a multidisciplinary team of electrical, firmware, and mechanical engineers, as well as engineering technicians. This role is responsible for driving execution of new product development, sustaining engineering, customer programs, and regulatory compliance activities while ensuring the team delivers high-quality solutions on schedule and within budget.
Responsilbilities: Project Development
Monitor progress of the project to ensure that the customer expectations, schedule, cost targets, etc. can and are being met. Assist in keeping project on track or getting back on track as needed. Escalate risks, issues, and dependencies to management
Types and levels of support will vary from project to project. Understand and adapt to various customer expectations, project scope, and individual teams and team members experience level, along with their differing strengths and weaknesses.
Serve as a technical resource to facilitate design trade-off decisions.
Ensure engineering activities comply with design control requirements, risk management processes, verification and validation plans, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Support compliance with ISO 13485, FDA quality system requirements, and medical product development processes.
Assist in developing project schedules, milestones, and task tracking plans
Coordinate cross‑functional teams including mechanical, electrical, firmware, PCB, manufacturing, and quality. Interfacing with external and internal (upper management, production, marketing, sales, field applications engineering, and quality groups) customers regarding projects requirements, tasks, project schedules, and translations of specifications
Facilitate project meetings, design reviews, and status updates
Maintain project documentation including schedules, action logs, and change records
Support change control processes, including scope, schedule, and resource changes
Assist in managing prototype builds, validation phases, and pilot runs
Communicate project status clearly to stakeholders and leadership
Support continuous improvement of project management processes and tools
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team including electrical, firmware, mechanical engineers, and technicians.
Provide technical leadership and guidance on architecture decisions, design trade-offs, risk assessments, verification strategies, and product development best practices.
Establish employee goals, provide coaching and performance feedback, and support career development activities.
Support hiring, onboarding, training, and workforce planning initiatives.
Sales Support / Customer Service
RFI & RFQ
Work with customers to identify possible solutions / trade-offs regarding new ideas, possible development, problems that they are having.
Provide BOM to BM to use for the quote.
Provide Technical proposals and feedback to the customer.
Preferred Components
Work with component engineering / purchasing to make sure we are using the best parts and suppliers for our applications.
Work with suppliers, make sure that we are aware of and thinking about how we can take advantage of the new technologies they are coming out with.
Help influence /prioritize their development trade-offs / schedules of the new parts that will want to take advantage of.
Cross team communication
Communicate and plan design initiatives with marketing, executive teams
Attend design reviews, monitor progress of other designs.
Promote commonality of design between projects.
Communicate possible lessons learned back and forth to the design teams.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
7+ years of engineering product development experience.
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Experience with project planning and execution.
Experience supporting product development from concept through production release.
Preferred
Prior supervisory or people-management experience.
Experience in medical device or regulated product development.
Experience with ISO 13485, FDA Quality Systems, IEC 60601, and design controls.
PMP or equivalent project management certification.
