Role Overview

We are seeking two (2) dedicated Architectural Drafters to support insurance and residential projects for Australian clients. The role focuses on producing accurate, compliant plans for building permit applications, often for smaller repair jobs where the entire house must be drafted, with specific focus on the affected area (e.g., bathroom).

You will work remotely but as an integrated member of the Australian team, collaborating daily with a senior drafter and company directors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce Detailed Drawings & Plans
    • Draft full house plans and highlight specific repair areas (e.g., bathrooms, partial structural repairs) for building permit submissions.
    • Prepare and update 2D/3D drawings, layouts, and documentation as required.
  • Insurance-Based Drafting
    • Interpret insurance scope of works, site notes, and reference information to create accurate drawings.
    • Adjust and revise drawings based on feedback from senior drafters, builders, and company directors.
  • Code & Compliance
    • Apply and interpret relevant Australian building codes and standards (especially for Victoria) under guidance from senior staff.
    • Ensure all documentation is permit-ready, compliant, and technically accurate.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with a senior drafter in Australia and report to key company stakeholders.
    • Attend online meetings, clarify technical details, and respond to queries during overlapping work hours.
    • Coordinate on workloads and deadlines to help the team manage approximately 30+ jobs per month.
  • File Management & Workflow
    • Use company-approved systems (e.g., server access, Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar) for file storage and collaboration.
    • Maintain organized drawing files, versions, and documentation according to company standards.
Requirements

  • Experience
    • Proven experience as an Architectural Drafter / Draftsperson, ideally in residential or insurance-related projects.
    • Comfortable handling smaller-scale but technically detailed jobs (e.g., bathrooms, partial house repairs) that require drafting the entire dwelling.
  • Technical Skills
    • Strong proficiency in ArchiCAD (primary software used by the client).
    • Ability to produce clear, buildable documentation suitable for building permit applications.
    • Good understanding (or strong willingness to learn) of Australian building codes and compliance requirements, particularly for Victoria.
  • Education
    • Diploma or degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Communication & Soft Skills
    • Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written) for daily collaboration with Australian stakeholders.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
    • Proactive in asking clarifying questions and resolving ambiguities in scopes or drawings.
  • Work Setup & Availability
    • Able to work primarily within or overlapping with Australian business hours (approx. 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM AEST), with at least 5 hours of daily overlap for communication and issue resolution.
    • Reliable work-from-home setup with stable internet connection.
    • Comfortable working in a remote, distributed team environment.
Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with insurance-based building projects in Australia (or similar markets).
  • Familiarity with other architectural software such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Prior experience collaborating with Australian builders, surveyors, or certifiers.
  • Knowledge of permit processes in Victoria or other Australian states.
