What will you be doing!
- Being assigned as a design job leader, including job management and execution oversight.
- Providing assistance in resolving technical issues to prevent or mitigate schedule and budget impacts.
- Providing job updates and status reports to management.
- Guiding the work of technologists, coordinating schedules, and assigning tasks to meet cost, quality, and time expectations.
- Providing mentorship and technical oversight to junior technologists.
- Preparing engineering drawings and related electrical design documents.
- Making revisions to existing CADD and hand drawings.
- Updating Master Equipment Lists (MELs) to reflect equipment removed from service.
- Providing engineering support during decommissioning activities.
- Checking the work of junior staff and offering guidance.
- Conducting walk‑downs to support, troubleshoot, and revise electrical systems as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
Education
What we are looking for:
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology with more than twelve (12) years of relevant technological experience, or
- Secondary School graduation diploma (or equivalent) with more than twelve (12) years of relevant experience, or equivalent through additional education and/or training.
Experience
- Experience solving and/or providing recommendations for technical issues.
- Experience interpreting marked‑up drawings.
- Strong knowledge of design drafting techniques and practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to produce neat, legible, and accurate drawings efficiently.
- Strong proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Fluency in English and ability to follow and implement complex procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments.
- Ability to identify required resources and communicate needs appropriately.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal customers, engineers, designers, and external suppliers.
- Ability to supervise drafting personnel when required, including checking work and providing technical guidance.
- Demonstrated leadership on technical assignments.
- Strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, and commitment to safety.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a questioning attitude.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariats “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
Extensive desk and computer work.
Occasional visits to any facility on the WL site, including radiological zones.
Potential entry into hazardous environments requiring personal protective equipment.
Visual concentration required for preparing and checking design drawings.
Project deadlines or emergent work may require extended hours when approved by management.
Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four‑day work week and ten hours a day — starting at 6 am.
