Power And Market Systems Head

The Power and Market Systems Head is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of models and software tools that support power system analysis, market simulations, and portfolio optimization. This role ensures data-driven insights and robust simulations to guide strategic decision-making across trading, asset planning, and regulatory engagements. The position requires deep technical expertise in electricity market design, modeling platforms and a strong understanding of power systems and market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and maintenance of power market models, including energy market simulations, price forecasting, dispatch modeling, and system operation scenarios.
• Oversee the use of platforms such as PLEXOS for energy modeling, and/or optimization.
• Ensure models are kept current with the latest software releases and capabilities of modeling platforms (e.g. PLEXOS).
• Serve as the administrator for modeling environments, including cloud-based infrastructure and license management.
• Oversee technical grid-related studies, including system reliability, transmission planning, and resource adequacy assessments.
• Provide technical expertise and market insights to support commercial strategies, regulatory filings, and/or risk and opportunity assessments.
• Work closely with various teams to align market modeling outputs with business objectives.
• Stay up to date on developments in the energy sector, including market reforms, emerging technologies (e.g., battery storage, VPPs), and transmission planning.
• Develop and validate long-term and short-term market forecasts, including price, load, and generation mix scenarios.
• Ensure model accuracy, documentation, version control, and reproducibility standards are met.
• Coordinate with IT and data teams to streamline data pipelines and ensure modeling data integrity.
• Act as the organization’s point person and subject matter expert on power systems modeling and electricity market analysis.
  
  

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, or related field.
• At least 5–8 years of relevant experience in power market modeling, system operations, or analytics.
• Proficiency in market simulation tools and power system software (e.g. PLEXOS, PSSE, or similar tools).
• Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, SQL)
• Excellent analytical, leadership, and project management skills.
• Strong communication skills to present complex technical results to non-technical stakeholders.
