Data Engineer

Responsible for the effective execution of data management projects that require building systems to collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for business analysts to interpret, supporting the analytics requirements of the Data Analytics Team and its customers. This role works closely with business analysts, data scientists, data stewards, domain experts, and IT/infrastructure teams to understand data needs, ensure alignment with business goals, and deliver high-quality, reliable data solutions.

Key Accountabilities

• Data Modeling and Design
• Conducts data modeling and analysis, and develops detailed data models (e.g., using Python scripting, data warehousing, and SQL platforms, with knowledge of Talend or similar ETL tools).
• Develops automated systems for managing power industry and wholesale electricity spot market datasets.
• Maintains databases and computing environments, and administers database utilities.
• Data Integration and Interoperability
• Gathers and organizes power industry-related and customer-specific data from multiple sources.
• Ingests and transforms raw electrical data from Remote Energy Monitoring (IoT devices), cleanses and normalizes it to create a standardized data layer ready for analytics.
• Monitors and manages how applications and users access and interact with databases to ensure smooth data flow and optimal system performance.
• Provides possible scenarios and recommendations for process improvement and streamlining within the team.
• Ensures consistent and accurate information is produced and delivered to various groups within the company; oversees and troubleshoots automated data pipelines and workflows to ensure reliability.
• Special Projects
• Assists in executing the company’s Customer Analytics flagship project by developing use cases that strengthen collaboration across teams.
• Works with the product manager and vendors to enrich incoming Remote Energy Monitoring device data, ensuring comprehensive use cases that integrate product, data, operations, and business goals.
• Supports projects, protocols, and processes from planning to deployment, liaising with various IT vendors as potential service/system providers and project partners.
  
  

• Requires a bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong Python/SQL skills, familiarity with ETL tools (e.g., Talend)
• At least years of data engineering or analytics experience is preferred.
